Wednesday Season 3 Will Officially Return to Haunt You
You didn’t need the psychic powers of a Raven to have divined this news: Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular antihero, has been renewed for a third season.
The announcement of another return to Nevermore Academy comes before the imminent debut of Season 2 on Aug. 6. It’s a sign — or an omen — of many more stories to tell, and of the series’ wide appeal. “Television has — and always will be — a team sport,” says co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough. “[Co-creator and co-showrunner] Miles [Millar] and I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans. We remain grateful and excited to continue this journey and tell these stories with all of our partners.” The first season of Wednesday remains the most-viewed English-language series on Netflix of all time.
Season 2 will explore darker, more complex stories, while also retaining the show’s signature macabre humor. “We think Season 2 is funnier as well!” Gough says. It will also expand the Addams Family and Nevermore lore, introducing mysterious new characters while bringing back Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán), and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) in expanded roles.
Season 3 promises to go even further, on every level. “Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” says Gough. “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.” Millar adds, “We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in Season 3!”
As far as any plot details or release dates for Season 3, we’ll keep our eye on the crystal ball, but for now, the twisted minds behind Wednesday are staying dead silent — they won’t offer even a single rotting morsel. “Sure,” teases Millar, “but then I’d have to bury you in a shallow grave.”
Season 3 might be further in the future, but you won’t have to wait long to lurk Nevermore’s gothic hallways again. Part 1 of Season 2 of Wednesday drops like a corpse on Aug. 6, and Part 2 will arrive Sept. 3.
