Frank-Cauthen Bout Ruled A No-Decision

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York State Athletic Commission ruled Raul Frank's victory over defending champion Terrence Cauthen last week a no-decision Wednesday after reviewing tape of the fight.

Frank, a native of Guyana residing in Brooklyn, N.Y., had been declared the winner of the USBA junior middleweight bout by referee Ricky Gonzalez last Thursday night when he stopped Cauthen at 2:59 of the seventh round.

Gonzalez felt a hard right to the head sent Frank to the canvas.

"Upon a review, however, of the tape, it was apparent that there was an unintentional clash of the heads by both fighters," commission chairman Ron Scott Stevens said.

"In the best interest of boxing, and after having reviewed the facts and the tape, we have decided to modify the verdict to a no-decision."

Stevens also said both fighters had 30 days to appeal the ruling.

Frank, who weighed in at 153 pounds, is 27-5-4 with 13 KOs, while Cauthen, from Trenton, N.J., 153, is 32-3-1 with nine knockouts.
