Russian web hosts tackle child porn
Major Russian internet hosting companies have signed a declaration on joint policies aimed at fighting child pornography and hate speech.
Russia is second only to the United States in hosting child pornography on the internet.
Under the declaration signed on Friday, if a complaint about improper content is received by a hosting company, it will be sent to the proprietor of the site in question. If a response is not received within seven days, the hosting company will have the right to cut off the site.
In addition, the hosting provider will have the right to inform police about the complaint.
The declaration was developed with support from the Interior Ministry, which runs Russia's police forces.
