Tony Khan Hits Out At WWE's "Predatory Business Practices" That Killed The Territories
AEW President Tony Khan has spoken up against "predatory business practices" from WWE that his company as well as many others have been subject to.
After the June 1, edition of AEW Collision, it was reported in the Fast Nationals that 122,000 had tuned in, an all-time low for the show. It was later confirmed that 378,000 had tuned in, still not the best number, but much better than what was initially reported.
Dave Meltzer later stated that the initial Fast Nationals number had been supplied to a reporter by AEW's main competition at WWE. Taking to Twitter, Khan accused WWE of "predatory business practices" that put Jim Crockett Promotions and many other territories out of business.
This isn't the first time Khan has spoken up against how WWE does business. In April 2022, Khan said that a "bot army" had been created to criticize AEW. At the time, Khan suggested that this 'army' had come from WWE.
At the time, Khan had orchestrated an "independent study" about the bots, though many questioned how independent paid for by WWE's main competition could be. In December 2023, a Twitter/X user shared a photo of bots praising WWE, which Khan took as proof he had been right all along.
Ultimately, Khan has never shied away from his thoughts on WWE, which has often caused issues and backlash against AEW. And while WWE's business practices may not be entirely new, the AEW President wants everyone to know exactly what he thinks of them.
