Claudio Castagnoli Captures CMLL World Heavyweight Championship
Claudio Castagnoli shocked the world last night when the AEW star became the new CMLL World Heavyweight Champion in Arena Mexico.
On November 28, CMLL hosted its Leyenda Azul event in Arena Mexico. The show featured AEW involvement as three members of the Death Riders competed at the event.
While Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia failed to capture the CMLL World Tag Team Titles, Claudio Castagnoli brought CMLL’s World Heavyweight Championship to the Death Riders.
In only his second singles match inside Arena Mexico, Castagnoli defeated Gran Guerrero to become the new CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. This title change came as a surprise to many, as Castagnoli hadn’t competed for CMLL since December 2024.
With his trusty Neutralizer, Castagnoli ended Gran Guerrero’s historic 1118-day title reign.
Here are the complete results of CMLL Leyenda Azul event:
- Astral and Fury Boy defeated Draego and Troyano
- Lightning Match: Olympia defeated La Jarochita
- Capitán Suicida, Fugaz, and El Audaz defeated Vegas Depredador, Villano III Jr., and Yutani
- CMLL World Tag Team Championship: Hermanos Chavez (Angel de Oro and Niebla Roja) (c) defeated the Death Riders (Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta)
- CMLL World Heavyweight Championship: Claudio Castagnoli defeated Gran Guerrero (c)
- 2025 CMLL La Leyenda Azul Tournament Finals: Barbaro Cavernario defeated Soberano Jr. and Místico
