Jake Paul’s dreams of a world title shot are sensationally taking shape with a bombshell report on Sunday suggesting he is likely to be promoted to the WBA world rankings in the cruiserweight division.

Veteran boxing journalist Lance Pugmire on Sunday wrote on X Paul could potentially fight for a world title this year with either Gilberto Ramirez and Yuniel Dorticos.

“Told by WBA President Gilberto Mendoza that if Jake Paul wins tonight, he will be elevated into the WBA rankings, making him eligible for a title shot at the champion,” Pugmire posted.

Jake Paul’s career is on the line when he steps into the ring against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in an attempt to prove his credentials as a legitimate boxer on Sunday.

The American has made no secret of his attempts to use the Mexican fighter as a stepping stone towards a potential world class ranking with one of boxing’s global associations - something that would open the door for a seemingly-insane world title fight.

Paul has faced stinging criticism surrounding his sideshow ally recent fights against the likes of 58-year-old Mike Tyson.

It has been seven months since 28-year-old Paul was in the ring and despite his lack of experience will start favourite with bookmakers against his 39-year-old opponent, who has fought just once in the past four years.

Paul has trimmed down 12kg since his fight against heavyweight legend Tyson, and will face Cesar Chavez Jr, the son of pound-for-pound legend Julio Cesar Chavez, in a 10-round cruiserweight contest at the Honda Centre in Los Angeles.

The ringwalks were due to take place around 8pm local time in California, which is 1pm AEST. There has been big drama on the undercard.
