Default Looking At A "you Won't Miss Much Of You Missed This Show" Edition Of Ecw On Sci

And honestly, you won't miss anything if you skip this report!

That's because this week's edition of ECW was definitely a throwaway show, and I don't mean that in a negative way either. The idea was to hype Mania and not give away much on the wrestling end in hopes of us laying down our money on Sunday. Mission accomplished. There's nothing else that needs to be said.

    The Angles:

    • I absolutely loved that Gordon Solie got inducted into the Hall of Fame. Solie was as smooth as they came and brought an air of class to the proceedings.. He and Jim Ross are the best ever and he absolutely belongs in the Hall. The video package of him was just awesome.

    The Matches:

    • The opening tag match was fine for what it was, setting up the battle Royal for Mania. It was a fun match, with some good spots.

    • Shelton Benjamin vs. Carlito was OK. At times it was good, and others it seemed to missing that certain something. At other times it was resthold city. It also seemed like the crowd got bored with it at times as well. I liked the idea but they really didn't execute it. I put the heat for that on the workers, not creative.

    • The mixed tag was short and not as painful as it could have been.

    • Between doing the job in 24 man match and then losing quickly to Chavo Guerrero, it wasn't a good night to be Tommy Dreamer. I guess they did the match to show that the "champ is on his game" but to me it just came across as a burial of Dreamer. Hell, with the way they are booking him, I expect Colin Delaney to dump him next week saying that Dreamer is more of a loser than he is!

What To Make Sure And Watch If You DVR'd The Show:

    • You have to see the Gordon Solie package. Definitely watch that. Also, the opener was fun enough if you have some time to kill.

    Rhetorical And Unanswered Questions:

    • Didn't it sound like Joey Styles was channeling Tony Schiavone when he said that the opener may be the biggest tag match ever (even though Joey wasn't whoring when he said it)?

    • Hacksaw Duggan is in the battle royal to get an ECW Title shot?

    • Really?

    • And, why aren't Stevie Richards or Colin Delaney in the Battle Royal when so many Smackdown guys, and Matt Freakin' Striker, are?

    • Did Tommy Dreamer take the pin in the 24 man match as a payback for going to the TNA show in NY?

    • Does any wrestling fan really care what Michael Buffer or Bert Sugar think?

    • Did we really go from a video package for Gordon Solie to a shot of Kelly's jugs?

    • Does anything else scream "wrestling" more than that?

    • Were there really two matches left with 10 minutes remaining in the show?

    • Isn't there something just deliciously nasty about the way Layla carries herself?

    • Did Joey really say that Layla and Kelly become better technical wrestlers every week?

    • s that because they can't really get any worse?

    • Wow, can you believe that Joey actually remembered that Kelly was Mike Knox's "ex-girlfriend"?

    • When the main event started as the show should have been ending, didn't it bode badly for Tommy Dreamer?

I disagree about the Carlito/Benjamin match. I thought it was pretty good. I generally like the concept behind the heel vs. heel match. I think WWE should do it more often.

What is Greatness? How do you define it?
