On Friday, March 5th, Ring of Honor crowned its first ever Television champion in Eddie Edwards. The former ROH World Tag Team Champion survived the highly competitive field of eight wrestlers all looking to become champion over the course of this tournament.
In the opening round on February 5th, Edwards defeated Colt Cabana to advance to the semi-finals. Originally scheduled for February 6th, the rest of the tournament was delayed due to weather issues and the final two rounds took place on March 5th. In the semi-finals, Edwards was victorious over long-time nemesis Kevin Steen and, with Davey Richards beating Kenny King, an all-American Wolves final was set.
For twenty minutes, the partners waged a hard-hitting war against one another, neither man giving an inch despite their friendship, and when the final bell rang, it was Eddie Edwards whose hand got raised after he submitted Davey Richards. Richards took the title belt, strapped it around the waist of his partner, and applauded Edwards hard fought victory. When asked for comment by ROH’s backstage correspondent Kyle Durden, Edwards declared that “people thought this would rip the Wolves apart, but they were wrong” and ended his thoughts by reminding everyone that “the hunt never ends”.
24 hours later the newly crowned champion made his first title defense against the man many say was robbed in the opening round, Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana. Edwards, with some outside assistance from Shane Hagadorn and the TV title belt as well as a Steve Corino appearance, retained in his first defense of the ROH World Television Title, and now looks to dominate with the TV title in the same manner The Wolves did with the ROH World Tag Team Championship.
Who’s next for Edwards? The list of challengers is lengthy - essentially every man in the ROH locker room - let the battles for contention begin
