Default This Day In History - June 5th

    June 5th

On this day in wrestling history ....

1941 - Sandor Szabo defeats Bronko Nagurski for the NWA (National Wrestling Association) World Heavyweight Wrestling Title in St. Louis, Missouri.

2000 - Eric Bischoff defeats Terry Funk for the WCW Hardcore Title in Atlanta, Georgia. The match started with Ernest Miller attacking Funk, while Bischoff did a karate demonstration. However, the Funker took over and battled Miller and Bischoff back to the locker room. Funk later returned, wheeling Bischoff in a wheelbarrow after DDTing Miller on a rampway. However, Vince Russo sent out the Mamalukes (Big Vito & Johnny The Bull), who beat down Funk and enabled Bischoff to get the win, and the title. This actually happened on an edition of Monday Nitro. I am not making this up.

2001 - Jeff Hardy defeats Jerry Lynn for the WWF Light Heavyweight Title in Grand Folks, North Dakota.

2006 - WWE announces that they have purchased the video libraries of World Class Championship Wrestling and Stampede Wrestling. These acquisitions, along WWE's own library and the WCW, ECW, AWA, SMW, OVW and other territorial tape libraries they have purchased, creates the largest known wrestling video library, which at last count now contains an estimated 95,000 hours of content.
