The Spirit Squad have been running around Raw the past few months, proving a point that alot of fans would never have believed before them. Stick a few talented and young wrestlers, who have yet to get exposure, into a faction and it might work. Now with the rumors of the break up of the squad, we can look at it in many ways. You can look at the negetives like the tag division will weaken, a few of them will get taken off the main roster and that the whole Vince-D.X feud will start to decline. Or you can look at the positives. At least one member from the squad will stay with the company's main roster and have a few good years in him. At least one member will gain from this experience tremendously and go on further for the quest of a championship. I think their is no doubt in anyone's mind that the stand out from the squad has to be Kenny.
Kenny began his wrestling career at the age of 15, in 2001. He signed to a development deal with the WWE when he was 19. He was brought up to the big leagues at the start of '06 at the Royal Rumble alongside the Spirit Squad. From the first look, these guys looked like idiots. They had a very odd gimmick that wasn't overly funny as well. It may crack a smile if your in a good mood, but that is about it. So we saw these guys and we could easily make a few judgements. They all seemed to be fairly young, athletic and promising.
Upon making it to the main roster, Kenny still went back to OVW at the start. Interestingly, he had a match with CM Punk. The entire squad also participated in a 10 man tag in Feb. at an OVW show aswell. The last match The Squad had in OVW was against The Highlanders on April 15th.
His first match on WWE T.V was The Spirit Squad vs. Shawn Michaels in a 5-1 Handicap match. This match was very interesting to watch. You could see the talent possesed by all of these men in this match. Kenny clearly stood out from the rest, and his Guillotine Leg Drop was a very impressive move.
The Squad(Kenny and Micky) won the tag team championships from Big Show and Kane at a Raw leading to Wrestlemania. This was a big feat for the Squad and Kenny. Kenny won the Tag Team championship at the age of 19. That is a very big achievement. Over the next few weeks, The Squad helped Vince and Shane do "attacks" on Shawn Michaels to help prepare for the HBK/Vince match. During this match, they did a run in which officially sealed the deal, that they weren't just going to disappear after a few weeks. We have also seen the squad on the mic, and Kenny shows soon talent handling the mic. Not enough to make him a credible mic god, but enough to keep him in the people's eye.
Since then, the Spirit Squad have really helped the Raw roster, as they have helped set up many feuds and storylines. These included Triple H/Edge/Cena, Shawn/Vince and the reformation of D-X. Recently, the squad have been feuding with D-X, which has become quite boring and stale. I, alongside many, believe that this is the perfect time to split up the squad. It is better to end their run now, and attempt to make something of the standouts, instead of trying to salvage the faction.
So, the squad is bound to split up soon. But how do you think that they should use Kenny?
My opinion is that they should not push him to the moon(or a near satellite for that matter) until he is ready for it. Kenny has some great talent, and they shouldn't spoil it, by pushing him to soon. I think the WWE should pair him with another good wrestler like Gunner Scott, Charlie Haas etc. who don't really have much going on. They can make a good tag team, and get themselves some recognition on Raw, but not to much to spoil his talent. He should run in a major tag team for about a year, then explore a singles career. Near the age of 22, I think kenny should be in the mid card, and possibly feuding the man who he was once in a tag team with. After that feud is done, have him move into a midcard feud with the likes of Matt Striker, Eugene, Chris Masters, Johnny Nitro etc. I say around the age of 23-24 give Kenny a run as the I.C or U.S champion. He should then have a major belt feud with someone credible, that will get him over. Give Kenny 1 or 2 years in the I.C or U.S division. Give him about 2-3 title reigns and some good feuds and matches. Then, when he is about 25-26, start moving him more to the main event scence. Give him one major feud with a majorly credible superstar, and put him over that superstar. This will make Kenny a major player. Next, he should go after the belt, but lose the feud. This will get him in the public's eye as a championship contender, but still not make him the champion yet. Keep him in the main event scene for another year. Then have him win the championship at the age of about 27. This will be good for Kenny, because he will be a known name by then, and he will have alot under his belt.
Now, although my plot may be very farfetched and unrealistic, I think it would be a great idea for a young guy like Kenny. Trying to get him big to soon would be a bad move. The WWE need to slowly breed talent like Kenny into main event players, rather then just shoving them down out throats. Kenny has all the tools to make it far in the business. He shows promise in the ring and on the mic, and I sure that over the years he will improve in both areas. Personally, I think that is the best road for a wrestler like Kenny.
How do you want to see Kenny move in the roster? Do you think he has what it takes to make it far in the business? Thoughts on my plot?
