Wes Lee and Dijak compete to become the No. 1 Contender to the NXT Championship at Heatwave

The No. 1 Contender to NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes will be decided when Wes Lee and Dijak square off live on NXT. Since losing the NXT North American Championship, Lee has become increasingly frustrated, and his anger is reaching a boiling point. Dijak, meanwhile, is coming off a systematic beatdown of Eddy Thorpe that reaffirmed his status as arguably the toughest Superstar in NXT. Who will become the No. 1 Contender?

NXT Tag Team Championship
Tony D'Angelo and Channing Lorenzo (c) vs Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid (w/ Joe Gacy, Ava, and many more masked people)

Jagger attacks Tony before the bell but Tony with punches to Jagger followed by a clothesline and punches. Tony with an Irish whip and Jagger with a Flair Flip to the apron and Tony follows but the Schismates are at Jagger's side. Rip tags in.and they lock up. Tony with a slam. Channing tags in and they connect with punches to Rip. Channing with a punch but Rip with an Irish whip. Channing floats over and hits a drop kick. Tony chokes Rip in the corner while Channing punches Rip. Tony tags in and goes for a slam. Rip backs Tony into the corner and Jagger tags in and connects with an elbow and drop kick. Tony with a suplex and Channing tags in. Channing with a double leg take down and leg drop. Channing with punches and chops. Channing with a side head lock take down.

Rip tags in and Rip with an arm drag but Channing with a head lock. Tony pushes Channing to hit the head lock and head scissors take down. Tony and Channing with punches and clotheslines to send Rip and Jagger over the top rope to the floor. Tony hip tosses Channing onto Rip and Jagger on the floor. Channing sends Rip into the ring and goes up top and hits a back elbow. Ava gets on the apron and Rip with a knee and he punches Tony off the apron. Jagger tags in and Jagger with a drop kick to the knee and Rip with a kick to the head. Jagger drop kicks Tony off the apron. Jagger knocks Channing off the apron and into the announce table.

Jagger with a forearm to Channing over the apron and then he catapults Channing into the bottom rope. Jagger with a forearm. Rip tags in and they hit a double clothesline. Channing blocks a suplex and Rip with a forearm to the back. Rip with a suplex and he gets a near fall. Rip with a reverse chin lock. Rip with a forearm and Channing goes to the apron. The referee warns Joe and Ava not to do anything. Channing with a shoulder and he tries for a slingshot sunset flip but Rip does not go over until Jagger tags in and punches Channing. Jagger with a snap mare and boot to the head. Jagger with a forearm and he puts Channing in the tree of woe. Jagger with punches to Channing and Channing falls to the mat.

Jagger with a clothesline and he gets a near fall. Jagger with a reverse chin lock. Channing with punches but Jagger holds on to an arm bar. Jagger with a knee to Channing and a forearm to Tony and the referee has to hold Tony back and he misses an inside cradle from Channing but Rip breaks it up before the referee turns around. Jagger with a forearm. Channing with elbows and kicks to get out of the corner but Jagger stops him. Channing with punches but he cannot get to Tony. Rip tags in and he connects with a clothesline. Channing with punches but Rip with a knee and he sets for a belly-to-back suplex but Channing lands on his feet. Channing leaps over Rip but Rip holds on. Channing with an enzuigiri and Jagger tags in and stops Channing from making the tag.

Channing with a kick and Tony tags in and he connects with many clotheslines and an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on Jagger. Tony with a double leg take down and kicks to Rip. Tony with kicks to Jagger on top of Rip. Tony with a spinebuster to Rip. Jagger misses an enzuigiri and Tony with a fisherman's suplex and he gets a near fall. Rip tags in and he trips Tony and pulls him to the floor. Tony punches Rip but Jagger with a suicide dive to Tony.

Ivy Nile comes out and the Schism Masses get in the way. Two of the masked men do not join the wall of masks and they connect with a few moves The Creed Brothers do and Tony gets the three count after a belly-to-back into a clothesline.

Winners: Tony D'Angelo and Channing Lorenzo (retain championship)


Backstage:
We go to Eddy Thorpe. He says it is one thing to say it but another to act on it. NXT is on fire and he does not want to fall behind. He says he has to find his life force. It will lead to his fighting spirit. That alone is not enough to get over the pain. He must do more. He talks about how dance is his medicine and part of his people. He says he moves in that ring and feels the energy of the fans. With his fighting spirit repaired, he can move on to facing Dijak again.

Backstage:
We see Carmelo Hayes signing some merchandise. Wes Lee shows up and wonders why Carmelo didn't answer his calls. Carmelo asks Wes if he should be worried about Dijak. Wes says after he wins, all Hayes will have to worry about is signing the contract for their match.

We go to commercial.

Backstage:
We are back and Andre tells Duke that he got Thea a match with Jacy Jayne tonight. They say it will be good to get her back on track. Thea shows up and Andre tells her about the match with Jacy to work through some emotions. Thea says Andre knows what's best for her. Duke asks why would Andre do that. Andre says Thea needs to work through the anger and aggression. He says he wants her to be happy. Thea is disinterested and tells him not to throw in the towel. She walks away. Andre wants to know what the f*** that was. Duke says he will talk to Thea.


Blair Davenport vs Dana Brooke (w/ Kelani Jordan)

They lock up and Blair pushes Dana on the break but Dana pushes back a few times. Dana with a head scissors take down and she clotheslines Blair and Blair goes to the floor. Dana with a cross body off the apron followed by punches. Blair with a shoulder and then Blair goes to the turnbuckles for a double stomp to the back while Dana hangs in the ropes. Blair gets a near fall. Blair with a baseball slide and she gets a near fall. Dana avoids a kick and gets a near fall with a rollup. Dana with boots to Blair and a kick to the head for a near fall. Dana misses a splash in the corner. Blair goes to the turnbuckles but Dana counters into a sit out power bomb and she gets a near fall.

Blair goes to the floor and Dana misses a baseball slide. Blair pushes Dana into the ring steps. Blair sends Dana back into the ring. Dana with a clothesline. Dana goes to the floor and grabs the ring bell. Kelani takes it from Dana.

Dana with a rollup but Blair escapes. Dana with punches and forearms in the corner. Blair with a punch and she goes for a suplex but Dana escapes and gets a near fall with a rollup. Blair with a knee and a Bea Trigger for the three count.

Drew, Charlie, and Damon are in the back to prepare Drew for his match and Myles shows up with a bottle of water but Drew knocks it away.

We see Trick in the back.

We are back with more Hayes signings and Djiak shows up. Hayes tells Dijak to worry about Wes Lee because he is the only one going to Heatwave right now.


Drew Gulak (w/ Charlie Dempsey and Damon Kemp) vs Trick Williams

Trick kicks a purse in the aisle on his way to the ring.

They lock up and Drew with a side head lock. Drew catches Trick on a leap frog and gets a near fall. Drew with a punch and elbow. Drew misses a kick while Trick misses a clothesline. Trick with a clothesline and Kemp with a punch when the referee was not looking. Trick with a drop kick and a pop up uppercut that sends Drew to the floor. Trick follows and he sends Drew back into the ring. Dempsey with a German suplex on the floor while Damon is in the ring arguing with the referee. Drew with a drop kick after Charlie sends Trick into the ring. Drew with an Irish whip or two. Drew blocks a boot in the corner but Trick with forearms. Drew with a take down and kicks.

Drew with a bow and arrow. Trick kicks Drew. Trick with punches and forearms. Trick with a drop kick. Trick with a jumping knee and a flapjack. Trick with a snap swinging neck breaker. Trick with a uranage. Charlie goes after Trick and tries for a leg sweep but Trick kicks Charlie and then he hits Damon off the ring steps.

Brooks and Josh pull Damon and Charlie off the apron and they fight to the back.

Trick with a cyclone kick for the three count.

Baron Corbin walks in the back and Sarah asks Baron if he has something to say and he says he does and walks away.

We are back and Dabba Kato does not stand in the shadow of others. He fought his way out of the shadows. When he returns, he will cast his own shadow over NXT.


Baron Corbin is in the ring.

He says the great thing about coming out here and being himself he can say what he wants without any repercussions. He ran an Olympic gold medalist out of the building and he isn't coming back. Everyone in the back is a bunch of soft ass little bitches. Week after week after hour after minutes. He says he is ushering a new era, not of NXT, but of Baron Corbin. He takes his place back in the main event, where he belongs.

Von Wagner's music plays and he comes out with Robert Stone.

Stone asks Corbin if he made fun of everyone in the locker room. He says everyone disagrees with Baron.

Baron thanks Stone for his irrelevant opinion.

Stone asks if insulting people makes Baron feel good. You want to get back to the top and you could. You have the qualifications but there is one guy standing in your way. It is the man who put Bron Breakker through a table last week, Von Wagner.

Baron says he saw that.

Stone says Von is just getting started.

Baron wants to know why he is talking to Stone. He asks Von if he can talk and he tells Stone to give him the mic.

Baron says that is a bad idea. He tells Von if he wants to make it in this business, you have to learn how to talk on the stick. Baron says the first episode of Smackdown on Fox in front of 4 million people and he went face to face with the Rock. That is why he makes the big bucks. If you want to make the big bucks, follow him. You have a long career of standing in the background with security across your chest every time they come to town.

Von tells Corbin maybe he hasn't talked a lot. Maybe you talk too damn much. Von says he has built a friendship with Stone. You come out and it is the same old sob story. Everyone is tired of it. Von tells Baron to come out with one of his ten gimmicks and it doesn't matter which one it is because they all sucked. Von says he is moving up the ladder and your ass is in the way. Von says he has a reservation for one for next week and a table for one. You are going through a table.

Baron punches Von and Von punches back. Von clotheslines Baron over the top rope and he sends Baron into the announce table. Von sets for a power bomb through the table but Baron stops Von.

Security finally make their way to the ring to separate them.


Backstage:
Dom and Rhea are in the locker room. Rhea says Dom proved why he is the greatest North American Champion after doing it in front of Rey. Lyra should have been happy with the recommendation. She says she hopes that Dragon and Lyra can work together as well as them next week at Heatwave.

We are back and Mustafa Ali talks about the North American Title and how people did not represent the continent properly. He talks about Wes Lee and Dominik Mysterio, a man who does not have the proper values and is a felon. They need someone who can represent them inside and outside the ring. He will elevate the North American Title to heights never seen to prove that people can do it the right way. He wants people to open their ears, raise their heads and realize that the time for a new North American Champion is now. You can rise and reach out. You can take his hand and believe in a greater North American Champion.

Number One Contender Match for the NXT Men's Championship
Wes Lee vs Dijak

Lee avoids Dijak and rolls away. Lee with a kick to the leg as he stays away from Dijak. Lee goes to the apron and back into the ring to avoid Dijak. Lee goes for a drop toe hold but Dijak stays on his feet. Lee with kicks and a leg sweep. Lee slams the knee into the mat and works on the ankle. Dijak kicks Lee but Lee goes through the legs and hits a kick to the knee. Lee dives at the injured leg and he tries to work on the knee but Dijak gets to the floor. Dijak breaks the referee's count to get some more time. Dijak goes for the leg but Lee grabs Dijak by the hair. Dijak drops Lee on the top rope. Dijak with a forearm and he starts to work on the shoulder.

Dijak with a double wrist lock. Lee with a kick. Lee with a Liger kick but Dijak grabs Lee by the hair and sends Wes shoulder first into the ring post. Dijak with an elbow to the shoulder and an elbow drop for a near fall. Dijak with a double wrist lock. Dijak misses a boot in the corner and he goes over the top rope to the floor. Lee with a suicide dive but Dijak catches Lee and Dijak lawn darts Lee into the ring post. Dijak sends Lee back into the ring and Dijak gets a near fall. Dijak with a forearm that sends Lee into the corner. Dijak with a back elbow in the corner. Dijak with a release suplex for a near fall. Dijak with a wrist lock and chin bar. Dijak returns to the double wrist lock.

Dijak with an elbow to the back and he goes back to the double wrist lock. Lee with a tornado DDT. Lee with a drop kick to the knees and Dijak hits the turnbuckles. Lee with a Tiger Feint Kick in the corner. Lee with punches but Dijak punches back. Lee blocks a kick and hits a choke slam followed by a super kick. Lee with Meteora for a near fall. Lee sets for the Cardiac Kick but he collapses due to the damage done on the arm. Dijak sets for Feast Your Eyes but Dijak's knee gives out. Lee with a bicycle kick. Dijak sets for High Justice and hits it for a near fall. Dijak pulls Lee to the floor and Lee with punches. Dijak swings Lee into the ring steps.

Dijak sends Lee over the ringside barrier. Dijak grabs the ring steps but Eddy Thorpe shows up. Dijak tells Eddy to leave and he misses a punch. Lee with a rana that sends Dijak into the ring steps. Lee with a thrust kick. Lee with a Cardiac Kick and then he goes up top for a Spiral Tap for the three count.

Winner: Wes Lee


Backstage:
Lyra Valkyria walks in the back and Dragon Lee shows up and they talk about the challenge that Dom and Rhea made. Lyra tells Lee not to worry about Rhea. Lyra says they get along so well together and they have to be that close. Lee says he is taken and Lyra explains that she means they have to be on the same page. Lee and Lyra talk in their native language and they confuse each other. Lyra says they need to be a team next week.

Backstage:
Tyler Bate is with McKenzie and she shows footage over how his match with Joe Coffey came to be. Tyler says he has known Joe for a long time and he says Joe is still bitter about Gallus losing the tag titles. Tyler says he learned not to confront an angry person. He says Joe needs to find balance and serenity.

Backstage:
We are back and Ilja Dragunov asks if Trick wants to slay the Mat Dragon. He says he promises that fantasy will not become reality. Ilja says he will burn Trick down. He tells Trick to bring his confidence because he is going to bring the raging fire. Next week will be a fight. Trick will understand that Ilja is more dangerous than Trick can imagine.

Backstage:
We see Wes Lee with the contract outside Shawn Michaels' office.


Tyler Bate vs Joe Coffey (w/ Wolfgang and Mark Coffey)

They lock up and Joe with a wrist lock. Tyler with a reversal. Joe with a side head lock and take down. Tyler with a side head lock and Tyler with a side head lock take down using the turnbuckles. Tyler kicks Joe in the head. Tyler with a drop kick. Mark and Wolfgang get on the apron and Tyler with a forearm to Wolfgang. Joe hits Tyler from behind. Joe with an Irish whip and back breaker for a near fall. Joe with a knee to the back followed by an elbow to the head. Joe with a nerve hold into a full nelson. Tyler escapes and gets a near fall. Tyler with a European uppercut. or two. Tyler iwth punches. Tyler with a corkscrew uppercut. Tyler is sent into the corner but Tyler avoids the turnbuckles. Tyler with a knee lift.

Tyler goes to the turnbuckles for a corkscrew uppercut. Tyler with an exploder. Tyler with a shooting star press for a near fall. Tyler with an airplane spin and a Michinoku Driver. Coffey with a dead lift German suplex for a near fall. Tyler with a jab and Joe with a head butt. Tyler bounces of the ropes with a LIger kick. Joe escapes Tyler Driver 97 and Tyler with a rebound clothesline and plancha.

Dabba Kato attacks Tyler and the referee calls for the bell.

After the match:
Wolfgang and Mark pull Joe to safety. Dabba with a sit out power bomb to Tyler.


Backstage:
Baron is in the parking lot and he is impressed that Von had the balls to come up to him. Bron Breakker shows up and he says he is not finished wtih Von. Baron says Bron looked like he was done when he was put through the table. Bron says he will be watching. Baron says he knows that everyone else is afraid of Bron, but Baron says he is not.

Backstage:
We are back with Nathan Frazer.

He says it is hot in Florida and temperatures will come to a boiling point at Heatwave. He says he has a vested interest when he defends the Heritage Cup against Noam Dar. He says he had to negoitate with Tyler to get Noam to admit the title is not legitimate.

Noam Dar is with the rest of his friends and he talks about interrupting a lunatic talking about him.

Nathan says that Dar was cradling the trophy like a baby.

Dar says he is still the champion and he only deals in fact. He says he is done with Nathan's conspiracy theory.

Nathan asks Dar which trophy is real.

Dar says that Nathan did not beat him, he beat Oro.

We see Dar admitting that Frazer is the legitimate champion.

Frazer says he has a 'fraud alarm' so people can know if Dar is lying.

Dar says he does not tell lies and Frazer hits his button. Frazer hits the button many times.

Dar tells Frazer he can have his fun now but he will face Frazer next week and he will take back what is rightfully his.


Jacy Jayne vs Thea Hail (w/ Andre Chase and Duke Hudson)

They lock up and Jacy with a knee and forearm. Jacy with a chop. Thea with an arm drag and a take down. Thea with a head scissors take down. Thea sends Jacy to the floor and Thea follows.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Jacy with a rear chin lock. We see footage of Jacy hitting a neck breaker followed by a back senton during the break to get a near fall. Jacy sends Thea into the turnbuckles. Thea avoids a splash and gets a near fall with an O'Connor Roll. Thea hits the ropes and Jacy with a back senton for a near fall. Jacy exposes the top turnbuckle and punches Thea followed by kicks to the head. Jacy tries to Irish whip Thea into the corner but Thea blocks it. Thea with an arm wringer and running forearms. Thea with an uppercut and a Northern Lights suplex. Thea with a rolling splash followed by a springboard back press for a near fall. Jacy with a kick to the knee and a knee to the head. Jacy misses a discus clothesline and Thea with a kimura but Jacy gets to the ropes.

Jacy with a super kick and a spinebuster for a near fall. Jacy readjusts the turnbuckle pad. Jacy with a kick to the head. Andre adjusts the turnbuckle pad and Thea yells at Andre for what he did. Jacy with an inside cradle for the three count.

We take a look at a feature on Angel and Humberto. They listen to their grandfather about what he taught them. He said when they are on top of the world, they are family. When you are knocked down, you still have family. If you lose your way, you don't take it out on each other. If you lose, your cousin loses. The time has come. No more games or distractions. It is time for a new beginning. Angel and Humberto wake up and look at the same photo in their bedrooms.

Backstage:
We return to the Carmelo Hayes autograph session and Wes Lee brings Hayes the contract. He gives it to Hayes to sign. Hayes says he will see Wes next Tuesday. Wes pushes the photos away and the table is knocked down. Wes says he is not waiting and he will see him out there. Wes pulls the table with him.

Wes Lee makes his way to the ring with the table and his contract for next week.

Backstage:
We are back and Tiffany Stratton says you don't sleep on a superstar. You are just IT. Tiffany says she is IT. She is nowhere near her prime at 24. She says she will see everyone next week at Heatwave.

Next week, Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio will face Lyra Valkyria and Dragon Lee. Trick Williams faces Ilja Dragunov. Nathan Frazer defends the Heritage Cup against Noam Dar. Von Wagner faces Baron Corbin. Carmelo Hayes faces Wes Lee for the NXT Men's Championship.

In-Ring:
The table has been placed in the ring and Wes Lee is in the ring with the contract and a microphone.

Carmelo Hayes makes his way to the ring.

Wes tells Melo to come out and sign the most important thing he has signed all day.

Hayes says Wes is close to turning him back to the old Hayes.

Wes says he doesn't know about Hayes' lifestyle.

Hayes stops Wes and he says everyone thinks because he has the title, you get perks. With perks, there is responsibility. He says Wes is one of the best North American Champions. You held the title with prestige like him, but don't talk about how easy you have it. You take a couple Ls and face some adversity. Next week is your shot to take that title. He says he does not know if Wes can be HIM.

Wes says he does not want to be HIM. He has always been told he can't be the man. You were told you were one of the top guys. Wes says in the military he was always told he couldn't. Then he was blazing his career to the WWE and he was told that he can't. It was a hell of a ride. He was a two time tag champion and then he lost his partner. It started all over again. You can't be a singles champ and you can't do this, but he did. He says he became the North American Champion and he became the greatest one. Who did he take that title from?

Hayes stops Wes. Hayes says Wes won the title, but he didn't beat Hayes. It is the same championship that no one gave the time of day until he proved it in front of the people and he was a two time champion. This is about the NXT Championship. Hayes says he feels Wes, but next week, you won't, you can't beat him.

Wes says you go again with the can't. Do you know how many years he has turned doubters into believers. He is his biggest doubter. No more. He says he will not fail any more.

Wes signs the contract and he tells Hayes to sign the damn contract.

Hayes says Wes earned this and it was a matter of time before he got this shot. He quotes TLC. He says it will be Melo Can't Miss next week.

Hayes signs the contract.

Wes breaks the table and tells Hayes he will see him at Heatwave.
