It appears the original plans for the main event of WWE WrestleMania 42 are no longer happening.
It’s well known that WWE tends to plan ahead when it comes to their biggest show of the year. Although sometimes, untimely injuries can throw a monkey wrench into these plans.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins was scheduled to be the night two main event of WWE WrestleMania 42. Unfortunately, Rollins’ injury at Crown Jewel: Perth has forced the company to alter its plans.
This explains Roman Reigns‘ comments on RAW towards Cody Rhodes and CM Punk that one of their championships would look better on him. Meltzer states that Reigns competing for a championship in the night two main event is still the plan, regardless of Rollins getting hurt.
With Reigns and Rhodes already being done at WrestleMania twice in recent years, it would make a lot more sense for The Tribal Chief to stand across the ring from Punk next year at WrestleMania 42 for the World Heavyweight Championship.
WWE Superstar Paul Heyman was a recent guest on ESPN’s First Take. While hyping tonight’s Men’s WarGames match, Heyman teased that this match is essentially an infomercial for WrestleMania 42 next year.
“This is really an infomercial for WrestleMania [42],” Heyman said. “Because, as you must know by now, there’s such a huge publicity push out there that the individual tickets for WrestleMania Saturday and WrestleMania Sunday go on sale on Black Friday.
“So we are out there just showing the world, ‘Hey, check out this spectacle. Check out what WWE is about, and our biggest show of the year, WrestleMania, individual tickets going on sale.’ This is our audition for the world to come to Vegas for WrestleMania. At the same time, giving the most bang for the buck and the greatest WarGames of all time.”
