Pair charged with conspiracy to supply drugs to Winehouse

A man and a woman from east London have been charged with conspiracy to supply drugs to troubled pop star Amy Winehouse.

John Blagrove (aged 34) and Cara Burton (aged 22) both of Queensbridge Road, Dalston, have been charged with two counts of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, namely cocaine and MDMA, Scotland Yard said.

The charges follow a video obtained by The Sun newspaper, published in January, which appears to show the 'Rehab' singer inhaling fumes from a crack pipe. Winehouse was arrested and interviewed by police last month and later released on bail. She has not been charged.

The couple have been bailed to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court in east London on July 1.

The Grammy award winner's appearance and behaviour have sparked concerns about her wellbeing from family and friends recently.

In February, it appeared that things were turning around for her when she won five prizes at the Grammy awards, despite being absent from the ceremony.

Her problems began to spiral publicly last year. The 24-year-old star, who is said to be worth £10m (€12.6m), was admitted to hospital last August after a reported overdose of heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, ketamine and alcohol.

Fans were shocked to see the singer bloodstained and covered in scratches, wearing blood-soaked ballet shoes, and with bruises to her neck, bandages on her arms and make-up smeared down her face after she quit rehab with her husband.

The beehived singer, the daughter of a north London taxi driver, married Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami, Florida, in May last year.

Her father, Mitch Winehouse, once said he was so concerned about his daughter that he wrote a eulogy he expected to deliver at her funeral.
