FTW Champion Hook made his views abundantly clear after being betrayed by Jungle Boy at AEWxNPJW: Forbidden Door.
At last week's event in Toronto, 'Jungle Boy' Jack Perry challenged Sanada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Sanada was able to retain his title, continuing his 79-day (and counting) reign with the gold.
After the match, Perry was being consoled by Hook before Junge Boy turned heel and leveled Hook with a lariat. Perry then picked up Hook's FTW Title and signified that he would be challenging for the gold in due time. After that, he threw it to the ground before goading the crowd into more boos. In a backstage interview, Hook made it clear that there will be hell to pay, stating that his former tag-team partner "f**ked up.
One of the 'Four Pillars' of AEW, there had been rumors of a Perry heel turn for some time, and he had previously teased turning heel on Darby Allin during the Double or Nothing AEW World Championship match. Perry has vowed to win gold before the end of 2023, and has already unsuccessfully challenged for two World Championships within the past month.
The FTW Champion was introduced in AEW in July 2020, with Taz claiming that Brian Cage was the champion after his scheduled AEW World Title match with then-Champion Jon Moxley was canceled. After Ricky Starks won the title from Cage in July 2021, Hook won the title at AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen in July 2022. Just like in ECW, the FTW Championship is not an officially sanctioned title in AEW.
