I just watched it I don't actually see why they had to apologise! Yea it was like the day after his death but it was a harmless comment... And 90% of my friends have made comments similar during the past week! Maybe it upset people cuz he said that he was better than Steve Irwin but then he said he was better than everyone else?
HE loved us so much that HE paid the ultimate sacrifice so that WE wouldn't have to...

I didnt see a big problem with it either. Maybe Vince apologized because the comment didnt get enough publicity on its own, so he is trying to stir up some interest.

Probably! Yes the timing was bad but he didn't insult Steve... He just commented on the guys death, he didn't even use his name!
