Default Faithless could 'do a Radiohead'

Dance group Faithless could release their next album in a "radical" way, according to one of their managers.

Brian Message also co-manages Radiohead and helped guide the rock band's groundbreaking In Rainbows release.

Faithless do not currently have a record contract and are "hugely unlikely" to sign a new one, he said.

"Faithless have got enough financial resources to do it themselves, which is what Radiohead did. I'd hope they'd be radical about the decisions they make."

He told the Midem music conference in Cannes, France: "I hope they take a whole load of risks on making the music."

Faithless, who have enjoyed 10 top 20 UK hit singles, will have a range of options for the album release, he said. "They can do it themselves, if they don't want to take the risk they could do a deal to get somebody to put some money up."

In 2007, Radiohead made their seventh album available on their website in a pay-what-you-want offer, making them the first major act to rip up the traditional album release plan.

"There are no rules any more," Mr Message said. "What Radiohead did is just one example of that freedom to go and make up your own plan."

Mr Message said Radiohead's next album was at an "embryonic" stage and he had "no idea" how it would be released.

"The first step in the process is that they've got to make some music that they're proud of. There are no plans until the boys come back and say: 'We've got something we like here.'"
