Default Couple’s dog blew up the house

Couple’s dog blew up the house

January 11, 2014 2:18 PM By Cora Van Olson

English couple Kerry Leech, 20, and Mathew Heckler, 22, were out enjoying the day when they started getting texts that their house had exploded. Concerned for their pets, the couple rushed home. According to Leech, “We were out in the car when we received texts saying our house had been blown up, then we were told the living room window had blown out. I was panicking about our pets and rushed back. We saw flashing lights, two fire engines were outside the house and the street was blocked off.”

When firefighters were done battling the blaze inside, the couple was able to assess the damage. Heckler told reporters, “The explosion completely smashed out our bay window, cracked the fireplace, destroyed the floorboards and the sofa is completely ruined. We have had to buy a new one.” The damage is estimated at around £2,000, about US$3,300.

Luckily their three dogs and three cats were okay. Not knowing whether to suspect foul play or a gas explosion the couple waited to hear from firefighters as to the cause of the blast.

Firefighters guessed that that fire was started by the couple’s youngest pet, Zeus, a six-month-old whippet cross, who had been playing with a can of Lynx spray antiperspirant, and had punctured it. The can rolled near enough the the boiler’s pilot light that it caused the explosion when the boiler kicked back on.

As far as Zeus goes, Leech says, “Zeus is not in the doghouse for what he had done. He’s just a pup and at the moment he’ll chew anything.” However, it’s common knowledge that to curb negative behavior in puppies, you must “catch them in the act.” In this case the young couple did not actually catch him blowing up the house, so it would probably wise to switch to solid deodorant for the foreseeable future

Zeus was jealous of the other pets and wanted them dead.
