WWE President Nick Khan provided a rare look at John Cena’s professionalism during his retirement tour, revealing that the 16-time world champion has never once disputed creative decisions or complained about losing matches.
Speaking on the IMPAULSIVE podcast, Khan praised Cena’s selfless approach to business during what could be seen as vulnerable moments in a legendary career’s final chapter.
"There’s not been a dispute with John Cena since he announced his retirement tour. The generosity of his spirit in the ring is unparalleled,” Khan said.
"There’s never a ‘I don’t like this outcome because it doesn’t make me look good.’ There’s never a ‘why do you have me losing to Dominic Mysterio.’ He always does what’s best for the business."
Khan emphasized that Cena’s collaborative attitude stands out even among the most seasoned veterans, noting that the star actively contributes ideas without ego.
“There’s a lot of ‘hey, let’s do this in the storyline. Let’s do this in the match,’ which of course you want from the John Cena of the world,” Khan explained.
The WWE President also highlighted Cena’s extraordinary attention to merchandising details during his farewell run. Khan revealed that Cena plans his merchandise months in advance and even considers venue-specific sensitivities—such as avoiding Lakers colors when WWE visits a Clippers arena.
Cena recently lost his Intercontinental Championship back to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series in San Diego, putting on what Triple H called an “honor to watch” performance.
With just one match remaining on his retirement tour, Cena’s final WWE appearance is set for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th in Washington, D.C.
The 48-year-old veteran’s approach during his final run has set a new standard for how legends should exit the business.
