The Motor City Machine Guns are expected to sign with AEW following their WWE release last Friday. According to Fightful Select, sources believe Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin will eventually land in Tony Khan's promotion, though no deal has been confirmed yet.
Shelley and Sabin confirmed their WWE exit via social media while promoting their band's new EP. The duo had signed with WWE in September 2024 and captured the SmackDown Tag Team Titles a month later.
Sources at TNA told Fightful they remain open to a Motor City Machine Guns return. However, those same sources expect the team to ultimately choose AEW over a TNA comeback.
The tag team spent the bulk of their careers in TNA from 2007 to 2012 before returning for brief stints starting in 2022. Between their TNA return and working independent promotions, Shelley and Sabin made their AEW debut in 2022.
They competed in a six-man tag team match at AEW All Out, partnering with Jay Lethal against FTR and Wardlow. The appearance marked their first exposure to AEW's audience.
The Motor City Machine Guns' WWE run lasted approximately seven months. Their release came as part of the company's latest round of talent cuts.
