Paris Hilton has finally admitted: "I'm not, like, that smart."

The hotel heiress told police she wasn't a reliable witness in a violent burglary probe - because she's not very clever.

Paris, 25, said they shouldn't rely on her for information because she has trouble remembering things.

In police audiotapes, she said: "Like I really, I don't remember. I'm not like that smart.

"I, like, forget stuff all the time."

Police in Los Angeles are probing a break-in and attack at the home of soft porn producer Joe Francis in Hollywood in 2004.

They quizzed the socialite - asking her to tell them what she told Francis at a party before his home was broken into.

Francis told investigators - who later arrested Darnell Riley for the crime - to speak to Hilton as a potential witness.

Hilton also told cops "private tapes" were stolen from her home - and that a mysterious caller wanted money for the hot goods.

She adds: "They wanted money. They were trying to sell it to like a newspaper or something.

"So if you pay somebody, then you're gonna be paying for the rest of your life.

"My dad always taught me. They'll keep the tape anyway."

Riley pleaded guilty to residential burglary and attempted extortion in the Francis attack and was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison.

In a pre-trial hearing, prosecutors showed video that Riley himself took of the home invasion, the New York Post reports.

Francis was tied up, had his trousers pulled down and was taunted with a phallic sex toy.

During the attack, Francis was forced to tell the cameraman he enjoyed gay sex.

The audiotapes will be broadcast on US TV show Dateline on Saturday.

It comes after Hilton was arrested for drunk driving earlier this month.
