Man beats girlfriend with anger management class book

No she wasn’t seriously hurt, and no, we didn’t make this up. You can’t make this stuff up.

South Carolina man Tyler Ford, 23, who is apparently taking an anger management class, was reportedly watching a movie Monday night with his girlfriend, Sheelah Thompson, 22, when they got into an argument. According to Thompson, Ford “popped” their infant on the legs two times for crying during the movie, and when she tried to get him away from the baby, he turned his rage on her.

When Spartanburg County police arrived, Ford confirmed that that the couple got into a fight while watching a movie. He told deputies that he had asked Thompson why she was trying to provoke him when she knew he was trying to complete an anger management class. He said she just shrugged in answer to his question.

Both agree that that’s when he hit her.

According to Thompson, who had a bump on her head, Ford rolled up the book from his anger management class and hit her with it on the foot and the cheek. He then allegedly choked her and threatened to kill her several times before putting her phone in the oven so she couldn’t cal 911. They struggled in the doorway, and then she went for her box cutter in self-defense.

Ford said that Thompson went outside, so he told her to get back in to avoid neighbors calling police. In response he said that Thompson began hitting him, so he locked the door. When he opened the door, he said and she hit him again, he hit her back and she stabbed him in the arm with a box cutter.

Ford, who reportedly had a deep gash in his arm, said he hid in the bathroom until police arrived.

Deputies wound up arresting them both. Ford, who had a previous conviction for criminal domestic violence, was arrested for criminal domestic violence second offense, and Thompson for criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. As of this writing it is not known if she had any prior arrests or convictions.
