2012 - Ohio Valley Wrestling held a Super Saturday live event at the Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky. Trent Van Drisse filed the following live report:
Here's the report for the June 2nd Saturday Night Special presented by Ohio Valley Wrestling. This show featured title changes in three of the four title matches tonight, and a whipping in the main event. It was a good night to be a babyface here for the most part. "Nightmare" Ken Wayne was revealed as one of the long secret OVW Board of Directors members at the most recent Wednesday night TV taping, where Wayne made most of the matches on this show, while the heelish "Talent Arbitrator" of OVW, Josette Bynum, could only stand by and watch.
Dean Hill, Gilbert Corsey, and Kenny Bolin were the announcers for the upcoming DVD release of this show. Brittany DeVore and Terry Boddie were the ring announcers. The attendance was around 175, and they were pretty lively for most of the night.
There were notices on all of the chairs in the Davis arena tonight that OVW has lost their sponsorship with Papa John's pizza, and they were very sad about it. The notices urged fans to e-mail folks high up at Papa John's to get the sponsorship back, and they passed around petitions during intermission for people to sign to show to Papa John's that the fans want them back here.
On Sunday June 3rd, starting at 1:30 PM sharp, crowd scenes will be filmed for a non-wrestling themed movie at the Davis arena that anyone can be a part of. Dean Hill has a part in the movie.
The show started with a video package of several recent events in OVW, while dramatic music played, and sound effects were added to some of the big moves hit at key times in matches. It then went to a run down of the card tonight in picture format.
1. Tony Gunn beat Raphael Constantine w/Cinnamon Twist by submission
Constantine stole Gunn's beloved stuffed bear named "Ralphie" recently, so this match was for possession of Ralphie. Constantine claims the bear is actually named "Raffie" after him. Cinnamon Twist was dressed like a Greek Goddess tonight. Constantine and Cinnamon had a bag with them, that allegedly contained Ralphie, and it hung from the ringpost during this match. Gunn with an airplane spin on Constantine early on. Gunn controlled most of this match, and won the match by submission with his bear hug finisher. Of course huh?
Tony Gunn grabbed the bag after the match and opened it, but it didn't contain Ralphie the stuffed bear, instead it contained garbage. Meanwhile on the floor, Constantine and Cinnamon Twist produced Ralphie, snuck into the ring, and clocked Gunn with Ralphie from behind, which knocked him silly. Constantine pulled the head off Ralphie, revealing the bear had been stuffed with a brick, and that has happened before here. "Marksman" Nick Dumeyer came out to assist a loopy Tony Gunn.
2. Ted McNaler, Elvis Pridemore, Sean Conway & Arik Kristopher beat Ricky Chevy, Chase King, LaMarcus Clinton & ??? in an 8 man tag
This is the standard slapped together multi-man tag OVW does on every Saturday Night Special it seems. Sean Conway is the nephew of "Ironman" Rob Conway, but unlike his Uncle, he has no body at all. Conway ended up taking the heat. The good guys won when Ted McNaler pinned the guy who's name I didn't catch here with a spear.
After the match the masked American Assassin again came out wearing a suit, and took all of the heels out with clotheslines, except for Ricky Chevy, who bailed out before Assassin could get him.
3. Jason Wayne beat Chris Silvio w/Mo Green by count out
This was one of many matches made for tonight by Ken Wayne this past Wednesday's TV. This one got off to a fast start by both guys. Silvio with a big round house kick to the head of Jason Wayne. Wayne roughed up Mo Green on the floor. Silvio used the ref to unwittingly help flip him over the top rope to Wayne on the floor, and then gave Wayne a 'Rana on the floor. Wayne though threw Silvio into the ringpost on the floor, and then scurried into the ring to beat Silvio by count out. This match was very short, but action packed while it lasted.
4. Epiphany w/Randy Royal beat Taeler Hendrix w/Dylan Bostic to win the OVW Womens title
Hendrix was bombarded with chants of "Prostatot" soon as she appeared. It was Randy Royal who first called her that here several weeks ago. Epiphany wore a red outfit here, with black fish net stockings. Hendrix wore a skirt too short to even qualify as a mini-skirt. Hendrix and Bostic were donning matching "Barbie & Ken" t-shirts tonight. In an added stipulation that was never mentioned on any TV's leading up to this, Randy Royal was handcuffed to Dylan Bostic at ringside during this one. All Epiphany early on, but Bostic used the chain of the handcuffs to pull Royal into the ringpost, and then took the key away from Royal to free himself. He shouldn't have bothered though because Epiphany slugged Bostic when he entered the ring. Royal then threw Bostic into the ringpost on the floor. Meanwhile in the ring, Epiphany gave Hendrix a sloppy twisting suplex to win the match, and the OVW Womens title. This ended a long title reign by Taeler Hendrix, who won the Womens title last year on November 12th.
5. Jamin Olivencia beat Mohamad Ali Vaez w/Josette Bynum to win the OVW TV title
Jamin Olivencia wasn't supposed to get another shot at Vaez for the TV title here, but he became a masked man here for a few weeks, calling himself "Chito Martinez" to fool Vaez into giving him another shot. Everyone knew Martinez was Olivencia except Vaez, and maybe Kenny Bolin. Chris Sharpe, who recently turned heel ref to associate himself with Josette Bynum and the "Family", was the referee here. Sharpe now comically dresses differently than the other refs here, and has a thin beard. Scary huh? Match opened fast with both guys nailing each other with big forearms to the head. Vaez broke out several moves he usually doesn't use such as a DDT, and a second rope superplex. Olivencia with a top rope dropkick. Vaez with a swinging neckbreaker while Olivencia was laying between the middle and top rope. Olivencia with a big Northern lights suplex. These guys know each other very well, so Olivencia went for Vaez' running neckbreaker finisher on him, but Vaez grabbed the top rope to block it. Vaez then mocked Olivencia by using his mannerisms. Olivencia hit his "O drop" clamping DDT finisher to beat Vaez, and win the OVW TV title. Chris Sharpe didn't want to make the three count, or hand Olivencia the belt, but he did both because he knew OVW BOD member Ken Wayne would hear about it if he didn't. The crowd was loud for this one, and there was no masking the fact that this was a good match.
6. Shiloh Jonze & Raul Lamotta beat Jessie Godderz & Rudy Switchblade w/Josette Bynum to win the OVW Southern tag team titles
Raul Lamotta had two toned hair color. All Jonze and Lamotta early on, until Godderz and Switchblade gave Lamotta a double team low blow. Josette Bynum had all kinds of fun this match jawing back and forth with a little kid on the front row. It was neat to watch. Jonze came in running wild, and went for his top rope flying forearm finisher on Godderz, but Switchblade pushed Godderz out of harms way, and took the blow himself. Godderz then gave Jonze an enziguri. Godderz and Switchblade went for a double team finisher on Jonze, but Lamotta yanked Switchblade out of the ring, and Jonze pinned Godderz with a sunset flip to win the tag titles for he and Lamotta. Both Jonze and Lamotta have been tag team champions in OVW before, but this was their first time as champions as partners. The crowd was loud for this match, and popped big for the title change. Three matches in a row here with title changes, all wins by babyfaces, and all got big pops, which it surprised me the crowd would stay so hot for three title changes in a row, but they did. In fact, this may have been the hottest the crowd was all night.
Dean Hill came to the floor and put over the little kid that was charmingly arguing with Josette Bynum all match, who we found out was a 5 year old named Brandon. Hill credited Brandon with being such a distraction to Bynum that he helped Jonze and Lamotta win the tag titles. I would argue that the peek-a-boo corset Bynum wore on this night was a distraction to all of the males in attendance.
Intermission.
7. Paredyse beat Brandon Espinosa w/Chris in an I quit match
In one of the strangest stipulations in the history of wrestling, on Wednesday night Ken Wayne ordered this be an "I quit" match, and if Paredyse loses he must leave wrestling, but if Espinosa loses, he must admit he's Gay, or say he's John Travolta is how Ken Wayne worded it. Paredyse has been trying to get Espinosa to admit he's Gay for months here, and has provided much evidence to support that allegation. Paredyse pounding on Espinosa to start this match. Paredyse sent Espinosa into the guard rail a few times on the floor. Espinosa later returned the favor, after Chris ran a distraction. Paredyse with a Boston crab in mid ring. Paredyse and Espinosa both went for submission attempts. Paredyse dumped Espinosa on his head with a suplex to break free. The ref had a mic with him to ask the combatants if they wanted to quit, and Paredyse was cutting almost Shakespearean like promos while in submission holds on how he'll never quit. Came off sort of weird I thought. Both guys trading punches in mid ring. Paredyse had Espinosa tapping out to a submission hold, but Chris got up on the apron to distract the ref from seeing it. Paredyse went to kiss Chris on the apron, and then moved as Espinosa crashed into Chris. Espinosa came back with a big kick to the head of Paredyse. Espinosa tied Paredyse in the tree of woe, but then clumsily charged the corner, and Paredyse somehow caught Espinosa in a Boston Crab while he was hanging over the top rope. Espinosa couldn't break out of it, and shouted "I'm Gay" into the mic to give the win to Paredyse.
The postmatch saw Paredyse shake hands with, and then hugged Espinosa, and told him to never be ashamed of who he is. Wow, I guess this could be called the "Blow off" of this feud huh??
8. Rob Terry w/Josette Bynum beat "Smooth" Johnny Spade by DQ to retain the OVW heavyweight title
Terry beat Spade at the May Saturday Night Special to win the OVW title. Chris Sharpe was the ref here. Spade hit a running knee on Terry in the corner early. Spade sent Terry over the top rope, and beat on him on the floor, with Terry favoring his left knee. Terry hit his left arm on the ringpost when Spade ducked him, but Terry then ran Spade back first into the ringpost on the floor. Terry took control of the match in the ring, but Spade came back and hit a Swanton, and then many punches and kicks on Terry, but this was all just making Rob Terry angry. Terry powered Spade up from the mat and powerslammed him. Terry went for a vertical suplex on Spade, but Spade fought out of with knees to the head, and then went for a superkick, but heel referee Chris Sharpe ran himself into the tree trunk like arm of Rob Terry to make himself take a ref bump. Wow, that was different. Spade hung Sharpe in the corner, and was going to superkick him, but "The Family" ran in and attacked Spade. Cliff Compton then ran in to make the save for Spade. Chris Sharpe finally called for the bell, disqualifying Spade for Compton's run in. This was a terrible night for Josette Bynum and "The Family", but they held on to the OVW heavyweight title, at least for now. Chris Sharpe should get called on the carpet by Ken Wayne for his cheap, but creative, stunts in this bout.
9. James "Moose" Thomas, Michael Hayes, and Mickie McMichael beat Joe Coleman, Jack Black, and Christopher "The Prince" Bolin
It could easily be argued this shouldn't have been the main event, but with Michael Hayes and Mickie McMichael around, it was. Mickie is legit autistic, and is the former abused personal assistant of Prince Bolin. Now he's with his buddies Moose and Michael Hayes. This match looked like the land of misfit toys to me. Joe Coleman got worked over by Moose and Hayes early on here, but Coleman came back and yanked Mickie off the ring apron when he wasn't looking. Michael Hayes then took the heat for awhile. Moose finally came in running wild, and bodyslammed the much thinner, but still large, Jack Black. Moose beat the crap out of Coleman with power moves. It finally came down to Mickie and Prince Bolin in the ring, while time stood still, and confusion abounded. Mickie finally gave Bolin a stunner for the win, which got a very large pop.
The pre-match stips here were BS 2.0 member Rocco Bellagio was banned from the building, and if BS 2.0 loses, Prince Bolin has to take ten lashes. Bolin tried to get away after the match, but the OVW babyfaces, led by Cliff Compton, came out and made sure that didn't happen. The flabby Prince Bolin had his shirt ripped off, and Mickie then ripped Bolin's belt off his pants, and Mickie gave Bolin ten lashes. Most hit the same spot, and Bolin's back was red, and welting up immediately. There was then much rejoicing for Mickie's triumphant moment, with many chants for Mickie, and OVW chants, while Mickie was held up on the shoulders of the babyfaces in celebration. Only in wrestling huh? Personally, I could have done just fine without this match, but I liked the show overall, with again a hot crowd helping it out a lot. Send any feedback to tvd65@hotmail.com.

This was a good opener. The crowd was really behind Ultramantis. Ophidian has a different look from when I saw him work before.

Entertaining match. Good performances from all four men. I liked the way that they transitioned MMArchie into Archibald Peck. Sugar Dunkerton added to the commentary since he has tagged with Dasher and could add to the situation. They really played up the ‘old school’ nature of Dasher’s character.

Akuma climbs the ladder and hits a power bomb through the table and Icarus is down. Akuma climbs the ladder and he gets contract.
Winner: Gran Akuma
The crowd interaction and the announcers made what was a good match into a better match. There were some crazy spots during the match. Chikarason and Remsburg did a great job talking about the damage that Icarus was doing to himself as well as Akuma. I liked that Akuma did the Terry Funk spinning spot with the ladder. The interference by Taylor and Gargano did not take away from the match because of the history that they have with Akuma.

The referee calls for the bell.
Winners: Sara Del Rey and Saturyne by disqualification
After the match Delirious kisses all three men of the Batiri on the forehead and he leaves the ring.
Solid performances by Del Rey and Saturyne. This is a type of match you are not going to see in WWE or TNA with the women having such a strong showing against male opponents. I was impressed with Saturyne’s performance since this was the first time that I have seen her work. Del Rey is one of the best wrestlers in the world. I was not expecting to see Delirious make an appearance but it did not take away from the match. It seemed like the fans were a bit disappointed at the disqualification and I was a little disappointed myself.
It is time for intermission.
So far, I would say that this show is worth buying the replay. The crowd has been hot throughout the first half, the commentary has been very good (with a few moments that even had me thinking that they were getting a little vague on reference [but not taking away from the work that Leonard Chikarason, Bryce Remsburg, and Sugar Dunkerton have done]), you had a good mix of matches with some comedy in the tag match, a ladder match that might have been worth the price of the show by itself, and proof that Sara Del Rey is an amazing talent who more people need to see.
We are back from intermission and Bryce Remsburg has moved from the announce table to his position in the ring as senior referee.
Ultramantis Black has joined Leonard Chikarason at the announce table.

Winner: Hallowicked
After the match, Hallowicked gets the scissors and starts to cut his hair. Donst starts to cry and then Hallowicked gets the clippers.
Hallowicked gives Donst back his Young Lions Cup but Donst throws it down when he leaves the ring.
I thought this match was okay. The ref bump set up the finish with Donst able to kick out before choking out Hallowicked. The announcers told a good story of why Donst would act the way he did. I did not think they would unmask Hallowicked and they found a way for Donst to get his head shaved. With any restart, I wish it would be more than two or three moves before the person who was wronged gets his revenge.

If you want to see the type of match that separates Chikara from other companies, this is the one to watch. There were a lot of crazy spots. With the number of masked wrestlers, there could have been some confusion for those unfamiliar with the company. Adding Quackenbush to the match added to the ‘stopping the outsiders’ angle. Winners: The Young Bucks
This was a very solid main event. I was a bit surprised that we got new campeones in this match. This might have been one of my favorite Young Bucks matches that I have seen. I thought all four men gave everything in this match and it was a fitting match to close the show. There were a number of solid tag team moves and there was a lot of strategy in the match. It seemed like the first fall was to feel out the other team and to try to get that advantage to possibly lead to a quick win in the second fall.
We go to footage from downtown Philadelphia where Archibald Peck is still walking in shock after losing earlier tonight. He walks past the Rocky statute.
The first team announced for King of Trios is Tommy Dreamer, Jerry Lynn, and Too Cold Scorpio.

Real fun opener with some crazy bumps and a really high energy pace in the ring.
After replays, they showed Sabin on the stage and he had a lot of blood on him from the hardway show. Hulk Hogan came out and raised his hand. He said that he wanted Sabin to hear what the Boston Hulkamaniacs sound like. The crowd popped. Hogan said he wanted to give Sabin his props because he's been in Boston for years and he knows that Boston loves champions like Sabin. He said that every time Sabin comes out, the crowd is going to cheer him just as loud as the first time Hulk beat up Andre the Giant. Hogan said Sabin was the future and pointed out the X-Division champ would have a chance to challenge the TNA champion this summer. He said that he loved Sabin and said congratulations. Cool way to put Sabin over.
Hogan came into the ring alone and said now it's time for some Hulk Hogan business. He said they needed to talk about what was going down tonight. Out came Aces & Eights, led by Ken Anderson. Anderson mocked Hogan and Boston. Hogan said Boston and he aren't afraid of ghosts, terrorists or p***ies. Yes, he said the third one. He said that Joseph Park would take out Devon and start the ball rolling tonight. Bischoff started going off on Hogan and Hogan told him "you're a b*tch and your old man is a b*tch." Anderson continued to work over Anderson's arm. Brisco tagged in and slammed him. Brisco cinched in an armbar. Aces & Eights started tagging in and out working over Magnus. Brisco nailed Hardy and Joe to try and prevent a tag but Hardy still made the hot tag.
Hardy drilled Brisco with a big forearm and scored a series of clotheslines. He nailed the Twist of Fate on Anderson but Brisco nailed him from behind. Hardy came back and nailed the Whsiper in the Wind. It turned into a six man brawl with everyone battling.
It settled down and Hardy nailed a vertical suple and a slam. Hardy went up for a swanton but had his legs taken out from under him. Hardy crashed hard atop the buckles. Bischoff played to the crowd but Joe attacked him with a running back splasj and enziguiri. Magnus took out Bischoff.
Joe attacked Anderson and locked him in a choke on the ramp. Magnus set up Hardy so he could nail a swanton on Brisco and score the pin.
Your winners, Samoa Joe & Magnus & Jeff Hardy!
Truly solid and enjoyable six man tag. The pace was good and they took a nice back and forth story. Bischoff and Brisco looked good. Anderson looked better here than he did the last few weeks of TV. Joe and Magnus were awesome and Hardy looked energized.
Jay Bradley vs. Sam Shaw: Gutcheck Tournament Final.
Bradley was taken down with a double leg takedown and kept off balance early. Shaw was real aggressive early. Bradley took over but was caught with a backbreaker for a two count.
Bradley caught him with the boomstick and scored the pin.
Your winner, Jay Bradley!
Christy Hemme interviewed Bradley. He said he was the first in the Bound for Glory series and would be the last man out - meaning he would win the TNA title.
Jeremy Borash interviewed Austin Aries and Bobby Roode. Roode said they were going to win because he was the longest reigning TNA champion ever. Aries noted he was the one who beat Roode for the title and that meant they would win championship gold. They were pushing the idea that the X-Divison title cash-in would happen this summer and last time, there was a change. Nice, subtle way to try and reinforce the title's worth.
Short but solid Gutcheck bout. Bradley looks ready to go. Shaw is still finding himself.
TNA TV champ Devon vs. Joseph Park
No sign of Park because of the beating.
Devon took the mic and asked everyone where Park was. Devon said that it seemed like he fell and couldn't get back up. He said it was no different than when the NY Knicks beat the hell out of the Boston Celtics. Devon said that the referee needs to count Abyss out.
The referee counted Park out and rang the bell.
Your winner and still TNA TV champ, Devon!
Taz joked it was a hard fought battle.
Devon took the mic and said that he knew Joseph Park didn't have it in him, just like Abyss didn't. He said that if Abyss was here, he'd ring the bell and whip his ass too, but since he isn't, they are going to go to drink some beer and play with strippers.
Out came Abyss. He hit the ring and clotheslined them both and knocked Knux out of the ring. They rang the bell. Knux drilled Abyss in the back, allowing Devon to nail a shoulderblock.
Abyss was choked against the ropes and drilled with a right hand. Devon choked Abyss in the corner with his boot. He nailed a big running charge in the corner. Devon scored several two counts but Abyss made a comeback. He nailed Knux off the apron and chokeslammed Abyss.
Abyss went for the Black Hole Slam but was kicked off. Devon rebounded off the ropes but was caught with a Black Hole Slam for the pin.
Your winner and new TNA TV champion, Abyss!
Fun match. It was a nice bait and switch that gave the audience something more than they expected.
So far, a solid show.

TNA Tag Team champions Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez vs. Bad Influence vs. James Storm & Gunner vs. Austin Aries & Bobby Roode

Roode and Storm peppered each other with punches. Storm took control with a clothesline and tagged in Gunner. Roode saw him coming and tagged out to Hernandez to save himself. This allowed the two biggest bruisers in the bout to face off and shove each other around. They tried to rebound off the ropes to hit shoulderblocks but were nailed from the outside by the villains.
This led to a lot of battling from everyone as the match broke down. That allowed Bad Influence to take control on Gunner and Storm. They played to the crowd but Hernandez and Guerrero charged down the ramp and dove into the ring with stereo dives.
Hernandez controlled Daniels and slammed him for a two count. He held him up for the delayed vertical suplex. Kazarian nailed him from behind. Bad Influence took turns working him over. Roode and Aries worked over Gunner, but he came back with a series of explosive clotheslines on each of them. Storm tagged in and tossed Aries over the top. He whipped Roode into the corner and backdropped him high.

Your winners and new TNA Tag Team champions James Storm & Gunner!
Another good match. This could have easily have gone to hell given all the bodies involved but this was laid out really well and was a lot of fun. Everyone did a hell of a job.
Jeremy Borash interviewed Brooke Hogan. She said the last year has seen the growth of the Knockouts division like never before. Dutch Mantel, Awesome Kong and Scott D'Amore just rolled their eyes. Borash asked Brooke if she still loves Bully like he says he loves her. She ended the interview. That absolutely foreshadowed a heel turn.
With all the title changes tonight, no way is Bully Ray dropping the belt in my opinion.
Last Knockout Standing: Taryn Terrell vs. Gail Kim
ODB is the ref. Kim's ring outfit it awesome.
They began scrapping right away. Kim smashed Terrell into the buckles and nailed a leaping clothesline. Terrell came back with a series of clotheslines and a suplex. Kim cut her off with an Octopus-like submission.
ODB got to five counting down Terrell but Kim attacked Terrell and broke up the pin. Kim smashed her leg against the apron, then came off the top with a missile dropkick. ODB started counting Terrell down as Kim went to the floor for a steel chair.
Terrell kicked the chair out of Kim's hand and started flinging her across the ring by her hair. Terrell went to the top for a bodypress but Kim pulled the chair up. The crowd chanted, "Holy sh**" at that. Kim began slamming Terrell's legs onto the chair and wedged it between the turnbuckles.
Kim tried to run Terrell into the buckles but Terrell saved herself. Kim nailed her and locked on the ringpost figure four leglock. Nice shout out to Bret Hart. ODB began counting out Terrell, who pulled herself out. Kim went for her running sideways splash in the corner but Terrell moved out of the way. Kim hit the chair at full speed and landed hard on the floor. That was nutty.
Kim barely made it up at nine but Terrell put the figure four leglock on the ringpost. Kim began screaming and being very vocal at being hurt, much more than she usually does in the ring. Kim was outside in front of the ramp. Terrell went for a spear but Kim move and Terrell dove through the ring and crashed hard on the ramp. That was INSANE.
Terrell barely made it up. She nailed Kim and teased another spear, this time off the ramp to the floor but Kim took her legs out from under her and she took a hard back bump on the ramp. She was up at 9. Kim went for a piledriver on the ramp but Terrell slipped out and bulldogged her off the ramp to the Arena floor. This match is beyond insane.
Terrell just made it to her feet right before the 10 count.
Your winner, Taryn Terrell!
This was just great and far better than anyone would have guessed going into the match. They took some really insane bumps and worked so hard, it was ridiculous. Huge thumbs up out of me. Shocker of the night and I mean that as a compliment.
Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles
AJ has this slow new theme music. He's bringing an entirely more intense look and body language to his presentation. He worked over Angle early and whipped him into the corner. Styles nailed a big flying forearm smash.
Styles drilled Angle but was caught with a tilotwhirl backbreaker. Angle began booting the hell out of him in the corner. Styles focused on Angle's leg, trying to set him up for the Calfkiller submission hold. He finally went for the move but Angle immediately grabbed the ropes.
Angle still grabbed at his leg, which was taped up. Angle reversed a leglock into an anklelock but Styles immediately grabbed the leg. Angle drilled him with a clothesline, turning him inside out. Angle went down grabbing his leg.
They battled back and forth. Angle nailed his overhead belly to belly suplex for a two count. Angle started unloaded with his series of German suplexes. Styles snapped Angle's throat on the ropes and used the ropes to vault himself over them into the ring with an full on body smash for a two count.
Styles went to the top for a move but Angle jumped up for a superplex. Styles landed on his feet, which was absolutely amazing. Styles charged Angle but was caught and suplexed hard into the buckles. The crowd chanted, "This is awesome."
Styles caught Angle with a spinning backhand. Styles went for the springboard forearm but Angle kicked him in the air and nailed the Angleslam for a two count.
Angle went for the anklelock but Styles rolled through. Angle was limping. Styles grabbed the Calfkiller and Angle teased tapping out. Angle reversed it into an anklelock. Styles tried to reach the ropes but Angle pulled him to the center and scissored him. AJ almost tapped but sucked it up and used a series of stiff kicks to finally break it.
Angle charged Styles but was sidestepped. Angle hit the ringpost. Styles turned him upside down and came running with a big dropkick to the mid-section. Styles went for a springboard 450 splash into the ring but Angle rolled out of the way. No water in the pool. They went into a series of reversals and finally Angle scored the pin.
Your winner, Kurt Angle!
Another really good match. Styles and Angle have had more spectacular spot-oriented matches but this was a really good wrestling bout with some awesome sequences, submission reversals and intensity. Angle was the right guy to win. It's hard to book him to lose when he's announced as your Hall of Famer and the loss adds to Styles' anguish and Lone Wolf persona. Styles' new direction really adds a nice, fresh feel to him.
TNA champ Bully Ray cut a promo backstage. He said that Sting didn't think about this before he made the match a No Holds Barred match. He said Sting warned him he was going to do all this things and warned Bully to try and do it to him. Ray said he wasn't going to do those things. He said there was one move that wrestlers try not to do to each other because of what it can do to people - the piledriver. He said that he's going to use it to break Sting's neck.
TNA champ Bully Ray vs. Sting
Sting immediately attacked Ray and worked him over, brawling. They battled back and forth. They brawled to the floor where Sting missed a Stinger Splash into the guard rail. Ray beat him with the belt. He ripped Sting's shirt open and chopped him hard against the chest.
Ray worked him over. Taz talked about how he broke his neck on a piledriver (in 1995 in ECW) and was never the same to put over how dangerous the move is. Ray grabbed a chair and missed a shot at Sting, hitting the ringpost. Sting got the chair and drilled Ray across the back.
They battled up the ramp. Sting kept beating him with a chair. Brooke Hogan came out. She seemed concerned. Sting implored her that she had to go back. He went to grab Bully but was lowblowed. Ray worked him over with a series of chairs to back and brought him back to the ring.

They all worked over Sting. He fought back with a series of low blows and punches. He tossed Garrett Bischoff over the top to the ramp and Garrett took a sick bump. Sting and Ray were left in the ring. Devon tossed Ray a chain but Sting caught it and nailed him. The referee counted two but Devon pulled him out of the ring. Sting went to the floor and nailed Devon.
Sting went to the ropes and dove off but Ray nailed him with the hammer as he came down and scored the pin.
Your winner and still TNA champion Bully Ray!
Sting can never have another title shot, according to the stip. The show ended with Sting out cold as Aces & Eights celebrated.
Another fun match. It was more of a chaotic brawl but with the exposed boards, etc. they threw in a few different wrinkles. Enjoyable main.
2014 - The Shield was officially disbanded during Monday Night Raw during an angle where Seth Rollins turned on Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose, setting the stage for all three becoming bonafide singles stars for the company. Richard Trionfo filed the following report:
The Shield come to the ring and Dean asks how do they look because they feel great. They are bruised and beaten up. They faced their biggest challenge to date against Evolution. When the napalm settled, they did what they said they would do. A clean sweep without a single casualty. That is what he calls domination.
Seth says adapt or perish. That was the situation. The Shield adapted while Evolution perished. Earlier tonight, the world was witness to their implosion. The reason Evolution perished is because while they are three of the greatest superstars in the industry, they were not one . . . like the Shield. In the end, they were three strangers who were standing on the same side of the ring.
Roman says that they were not brothers. He tells Randy to bring his ass out here so he can break his jaw with the symbol of excellence.
Triple H says that what he does better than anybody is adapt. Last night was Plan A. Tonight is Plan B. There is always a Plan B.
Seth hits Reigns in the back with the steel chair he brought into the ring. Rollins hits Ambrose with the chair. Rollins continues to hit Ambrose with the chair. Rollins with Black Out onto the steel chair.
Rollins leaves the ring and he joins Orton and Hunter. Rollins gives the chair to Orton and Orton walks into the ring and he has the chair. Orton hits Reigns in the back with the chair and he drives it into his back and then his chest. Orton removes Reigns' flak jacket. Orton gives Reigns an RKO on the chair.
Hunter, Orton, and Rollins stand over Reigns and Ambrose as we go to credits.
After Raw went off the air, WWE broadcast additional material live on the WWE Network. Mike Johnson filed the following:
Raw Backstage Pass opened with Seth Rollins, Triple H and Randy Orton standing over the beaten Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns for a long time as officials tried to tend to them. Rollins finally left with Triple H and Orton.
Backstage, Renee Young tried to get comment from Rollins, but he sneered, ignored her and walked away. Triple H then said, "I win." and walked off.
The majority of the Backstage Pass featured the panel discussing why Rollins might have turned on his partners with Booker T giving his best performance as an analyst to date, explaining why someone would turn on his friends for a chance to get ahead and how the entire point of the business is to headline as singles star and make the most money possible.
