Episode #139 - Taped in New York/USA
Show starts with a recap of last weeks show, where partners Pete Dunne and Matthew Riddle faced each other in a match in round 1 of The ongoing TV Title tournament. That match ended in a draw as it went the timelimit. We then get the announcement that tonights main event will be Dunne Vs Riddle in a 2-Out-Of-3 Falls matchup, where the winner will proceed into round 2 of the tournament. We cut to the Pride vignette...
We open with a promo video, hyping up the upcoming match between Nakamura and Okada. We get some text on the screen. Explaining the term King's road, as it comes from the japanese style of wrestling known as strong style. The "King's Road" approach is more of an off-shoot of strong style than a true different style. It is a deeper, more layered approach. The realism of strong style is mostly eschewed in favor of deeper storytelling. The storytelling goes beyond that individual match, building up on previous encounters and other matches....
Ohhhh I thought King’s Roads was then fighting in a giant truck going down the road with weapons like that WCW match.
As our first match are about to start, we cut to the entrance area of the EAM building, as a commotion are happening. Braun Strowman and Jeff Cobb are fighting it out in front of the entrance. Security try to seperate them, but without any real impact. The two men does not enter the arena, but fight it out down the street as we cut to the inside and our first match of the evening.
Nice for an update on them.
8-Man Tag Team Matchup
Sonny Defarge & Cornelius Crummels & The Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) Vs Chocolate Thunder (Willie Mack & Rich Swann) & The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz and Desmond Xavier)
Huge match from everyone involved. Lot of big spots and bumps and action from everyone. At the end of the match it is Rascalz actually getting a huge win and pin on Tama but everyone looks good. Signature/finishing moves throughout as well.
We get a promo from The Pride Tag Team Champions; Private Party, adressing their upcoming match this sunday. They are surely underdogs in this matchup, but they have proved before they can overcome those odds. And just to remind everyone, they have beaten both teams before...
Dominant team.
Our next match was supposed to be Sami Zayn against Will Ospreay. Zayn makes his way to the ring first, but as Ospreay's music cranks the speakers, nobody walks out. We then see pictures on the titantron from backstage. Ospreay is out cold on the concrete floor, with people gathering around him. EMT's are also there to check him out. The commentators responds to this, and says that leaves Zayn without an opponent for this match. Zayn are about to leave the ring when music cranks the speakers. The audience cheers as Aerostar walks out on the stage. Guess that means we will get a match after all.
Singles Matchup
Sami Zayn Vs Aero Star
Ain’t seen him in a long time. Solid action packed match from both. Big high flying bumps from Aero but at the end it is Sami with a Yakuza Kick for the 3 count and win but Star gets a good showing.
As we get back from commercial break we get a promo from Lars Sullivan, who talks about how nice it will be to get back his Pride Championship this sunday, and how he so poetically will do to WALTER what they did to him. WALTER and Lars has never faced each other one on one for the Pride Title, until now. And it will sure be a slobberknocker of epic proportions, as Lars announce that the match will be contested under very special rules, as Tables will be the only legal weapon! Oh...the revenge will be so sweet!
Hmm very interesting and makes sense with tables being used at the PPV. Instead of just a regular tables match. Could be a 2 of 3 tables match but works better with more.
2-Out-Of-3 Falls Matchup - Round 1 In The TV Title Tournament
Pete Dunne Vs Matthew Riddle
Awesome main event from both men. Some comedy and weed spots throughout the match. Tough choice for sure but Riddle picks up the first win after some kicks but Dunne comes back quickly with a submission win making it 1-1. Back and forth for some more minutes but at the end Riddle nails a superplex off the top rope into a Falcon arrow for the 3 count and win!. Riddle wins
