This does not affect UOW
I did a Australian poll (15,708 votes):
Do you agree with the government's new social media ban?
- Yes, it's a good way to protect our kids online - 49%
- No, it should be a decision for the parents 51%
I voted No by the way. I have many problems with this. Just a couple are it going to make the kids pissed off lol , they will find a way around it as always.
My main thing is that this was passed by the Australian senate yesterday, last day before they break for Christmas until 2025 and they had 30+ more other things to pass or deny. Most passed, this has been rushed, they have no idea how to implement and they should have waited to speak to the big social media platforms.
Problem is, there is a federal election next year for a new Prime Minister so a lot was rushed in before the xmas holidays. Pfffft
They wanted to use a national ID, I mean even for kids lol. Now a problem is that people over 16 do not want to use a ID to prove they are over 16. This all a bloody debacle.
Worse thing is, a lot of my friends children or their parents are going to start messaging me in 2025 / 2026 asking how to bypass it lol. I hope not. I am retired. lol
I don't even know how they are going to implement it. lol I don't think they do either. lol
I am interested to see how this story continues on through the world during 2025.
