WWE star Becky Lynch brings her wrestling experience to the final frontier in a new exclusive clip from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Paramount+ released new footage from the upcoming series during CCXP 2025, giving fans their best look yet at Lynch in action as a Starfleet officer. In the clip, the USS Athena comes under attack, and Lynch proves her wrestling background wasn’t wasted as she takes a bump while the ship is hit by enemy fire.
Lynch plays an unnamed Starfleet officer who serves as part of the bridge crew aboard the USS Athena. Sporting a stylish bob with blue streaks and the gold uniform of the Operations division, Lynch’s character works alongside Captain Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter) and a new class of Starfleet cadets.
The multi-time WWE Women’s Champion first announced her casting in December 2024, describing the experience as extraordinary. “I’m on the bridge crew, and filming on the bridge, it was one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever been on,” Lynch told Collider earlier this year.
Lynch’s wrestling roots run deep in her approach to acting. Growing up in Ireland, Star Trek was a constant presence on television. “I grew up when Star Trek was one of the two shows that was on TV in Ireland, on whatever four channels we had, so it was always on in the background,” she said. “I can’t say that I sat down and watched, but I did love the movies. And Colm Meaney. We all love Colm Meaney, any time he was on, you sit down and watch that.”
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set in the 32nd century and follows the first new class of Starfleet cadets in over a century as they navigate academy life, form friendships, experience rivalries and first loves, and ultimately face a mysterious new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
The series features an impressive ensemble cast including Holly Hunter as Captain and Chancellor Nahla Ake, along with cadets played by Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, and Zoë Steiner. Returning Star Trek veterans include Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, Robert Picardo as The Doctor, Oded Fehr as Admiral Vance, and Mary Wiseman as Sylvia Tilly.
The CCXP 2025 clip also showcased Paul Giamatti as the season’s villain, Nus Braka, a part-Klingon, part-Tellarite character with an ominous past connected to one of the cadets. Additional recurring guest stars include Gina Yashere.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy premieres January 15 exclusively on Paramount+, with new episodes releasing weekly through March 12. The series has already been renewed for a second season.
