CM Punk has revealed a defiant backstage moment where he directly ignored orders from a high-ranking WWE executive regarding his tribute gear for the late Randy Savage.

During an appearance on WWE’s “Break It Down” series, the World Heavyweight Champion reflected on his decision to honor the Macho Man despite corporate pushback.

"Somebody very high in the office walked past and saw it and found me and said, ‘Do not wear that gear on television.’ And I said, ‘You got it,’ and I wore the gear on television because that’s what I do. I’m gonna pay homage to Randy Savage whether you like it or not."

Punk explained why Savage meant so much to him and why he felt compelled to make the tribute despite the risk.

"As a fan, Macho Man to me was, you know I’m a hardcore wrestling fan so we tend to gravitate towards the guys that we feel aren’t getting the spotlight we think they deserve. We maybe feel like, oh, Macho shoulda been in Hogan’s spot."

The champion drew a direct line between fans’ passion for Savage and their current support for him, explaining how understanding that connection has shaped his career.

"Really like that kind of passion, that I had as a fan, and that fans in turn have for me, is really kinda what has propelled me throughout my career. It’s what helped me feuding with John Cena, and it’s really helped me understand the fans and connect with them a little bit better."

Punk has long been known for pushing boundaries with WWE management, and this revelation adds another chapter to his reputation as one of wrestling’s most uncompromising performers.
