Hutton was a decorated NCAA 3 time champion. He wrestled Verne Gagne in the 1949 NCAA Finals. He started wrestling for Leroy McGuirk in Tulsa Oklahoma. McGuirk would tell him if he comes into the ring and starts shooting on his opponent he wouldn't make a dime in wrestling because no one would want to wrestle him. Hutton also wrestled in Texas for Morris Siegel and in Ohio for Al Haft. Lou Thesz wanted to drop the NWA title to him because he was a real wrestler. Original Lou was supposed to drop the title to Buddy Rogers but Lou refused because he thought Buddy was all show. Lou ended up dropping the NWA title to Hutton but the promoters weren't happy with that. Hutton's finishing move was the abdominal stretch.
