US teen actress Lindsay Lohan is being treated in hospital after suffering an asthma attack.
The 19-year-old star of Mean Girls was taken to hospital in Miami, where she had celebrated the New Year, her publicist Leslie Sloane said.

She said the actress was "resting comfortably" and likely to be discharged on Wednesday.

Lohan is due to start work on her new film Chapter 27, about John Lennon's killer Mark Chapman, later this month.

Ms Slone said Lohan had suffered from asthma since childhood.

She added that Lohan herself had suggested the high humidity in Florida may have contributed to the attack, which happened on Monday.

"Lindsay Lohan had an asthma attack and went to the hospital to see a doctor," Ms Slone said.

"She's okay. She starts work in about two weeks."

Lohan had hosted a New Year's Eve party at a Miami club on Saturday night, but she stayed indoors on Sunday and Monday, Ms Sloane said added.

Lohan rose to fame in the 1998 Disney remake of The Parent Trap.

Subsequent film work has included hit comedy Freaky Friday, opposite Jamie Lee Curtis and, most recently, Herbie: Fully Loaded.

The teen star also had a US top 10 album with her debut, Speak, at the end of 2004.

According to PageSix.com, the 19-year-old - who has recently been romantically linked to Scarlett Johansson's ex Jared Leto - took delivery of a clear plastic bag from a girl pal which was seen to contain a pregnancy test in addition to playing cards, mouthwash, Coca-Cola and a box of Cocoa Puffs.
