Although I am a big Matt Hardy fan I do not think the "torch" should be handed to him. I think they should use Batista as their "flagship" superstar. Even though he has a limited move ste his intensity in the ring is unparralled.

You should need more than just intensity to be the flagship superstar, not that Batista has any. The only reason his intensity is unparalleled is because everyone else's is so much higher.

I don't think there should be any proverbial "torch" passed to anyone. Who has it now? HHH? Angle? Cena? Saying that you are going to pass someone the torch shows favoritism, and from the businessman's aspect, not the fan's aspect, that is not a good thing. Each wrestler should get the same opportunities, or at least considerations. It makes the product less appealing these days the way WWE markets its "top" wrestlers. They basically have a handful of people that get any type of opportunity to make a name for themselves. The rest of the roster is used as general employees, nothing that is worth the effot to even come up with an interesting storyline or gimmick for.
