    Default Rooney Cleared for England

Wayne Rooney's place in England's FIFA World Cup™ squad is expected to be confirmed on Thursday after he flew back to England's training base in Baden-Baden on Wednesday night following a scan on his foot injury.

Neither the Football Association nor Rooney's club, Manchester United, has made an official statement on the result of the scan Rooney that underwent. However, the sight of the player and FA chief executive David Davies smiling as they left the hospital in Manchester suggests that the 20-year-old striker will be declared fit for the tournament.

It seems that the whole of England has been holding its breath for the outcome of Wednesday's decisive scan, which took place in a Manchester hospital at lunchtime. England doctor Leif Sward studied the results together with Rooney's club doctor Tony Gill and physio Rob Swire, as well as specialists at the hospital. After two hours spent consulting the results of the scan the final decision was made.

Rooney's involvement in Germany has been in doubt ever since he suffered a fracture at the base of the fourth metatarsal in his right foot in a Premiership match at Chelsea on 29 April. However, as with David Beckham four years ago, it appears that Rooney has recovered in time to participate in what will be his first FIFA World Cup. At what stage of the event Rooney would be fit to play, however, remains to be seen.
