Mercedes Moné has been a part of New Japan Pro Wrestling for close to four months now, but Will Ospreay still can't believe it's happening.

Moné debuted for New Japan at Wrestle Kingdom 17 in January and established herself as a heel by attacking KAIRI.

The following month, Moné dethroned KAIRI to become the second IWGP Women's Champion.

Prior to signing with New Japan, Moné made her name for years as Sasha Banks, and was one of the promotion's biggest female stars.

Speaking to Dark Puroresu Flowsion this week, Will Ospreay shared his reaction to Moné now being in New Japan.

“Feels surreal actually seeing her in a Japanese ring. We spoke about it in 2019 when I was living out there. She's truly a lovely woman that just loves wrestling. Her following is amazing & she is a huge asset for Joshi.”

Moné spent months off of TV in 2019 after an alleged incident backstage at WWE WrestleMania 35, and at the time, some thought her WWE career was finished.

While some in WWE reportedly expect Moné to return in due time, that doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon.

Recently, Moné said that she intended to move to Japan full-time in order to further commit herself to her role with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Moné's next title defense will come later today against Mayu Iwatani at the Stardom All-Star Grand Queendom Event.

The match will mark Moné's second title defense after retaining against AZM and Hazuki at NJPW Sakura Genesis earlier this month.
