AC Milan and Barcelona are closing on an agreement over a transfer fee for Gianluca Zambrotta.
The 31-year-old has been strongly tipped to leave Catalonia for several months now as he and his wife have become increasingly homesick since moving there from Juventus in 2006.
The Italian press have long stated that a transfer to Milan was inevitable, however there had been some problems in agreeing over a transfer fee.
On Friday evening Milan general manager Adriano Galliani travelled to Spain to dine with Barcelona president Joan Laporta at the city’s Hotel Majestic, and the pair discussed Zambrotta, Ronaldinho, as well as Samuel Eto’o.
During dinner, Laporta agreed to drop his asking price for Zambrotta from €12m to €10m, while Galliani upped his offer from €7m to €8m.
With now just €2m separating the two sides, it should not be too much longer before a final price is agreed upon.
It is reported that Zambrotta would prefer if the transfer was sealed before the start of Euro 2008. Italy play their first game of the tournament against Holland on June 9, and the ex-Bari man is likely to be fielded on the right hand side of defence.
