Chelsea target sacked by Serie A giants
Serie A champions Internazionale have sacked manager Roberto Mancini.

The path is now free for the English-speaking Italian tactician to join Chelsea with the ex-Leicester striker reportedly on the club's shortlist.

Mancini, who guided Inter to an impressive third successive Scudetto last season, is now the firm favourite to take up the vacant post at Stamford Bridge.

Inter have revealed Mancini's comments following their UEFA Champions League exit to Liverpool was one of their reasons behind the decision.

The former Lazio and Sampdoria forward stated following their defeat to The Reds he would quit at the end of the season only to change his mind just 24 hours later.

"Internazionale have informed Roberto Mancini that he has been sacked as coach, in particular because of the comments made by the coach at the end of the Inter-Liverpool match," read a statement on the club's official website.

Hours before Mancini's sacking Inter confirmed his meeting with president Massimo Moratti earlier this week was 'absolutely professional', however, his agent Giorgio De Giorgis stated on Wednesday his client had already left the club.

Former Chelsea and Porto boss Jose Mourinho is the firm favourite to replace Mancini at Giuseppe Meazza.
