    Angry AEW Dynamite Live Coverage - August 18th, 2021




    AEW Dynamite

    Twenty years and five months after defeating Ric Flair in the final “Night of Champions” episode of WCW Monday Nitro on TNT, “The Icon” Sting will once again wrestle on TNT this Wednesday in an all-new episode of “AEW: Dynamite,” live from the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas.





    – This week's show kicks off with the usual signature video intro and then we shoot inside the Fertitta Center in Houston, TX. where Jim Ross does his catchphrase as the camera pans around the venue.

    – Fireworks and pyro erupt as an "AEW! AEW!" chant spreads throughout the building. The commentators run down the stacked lineup for tonight's show as the camera continues to show fans looking pumped up.

    – "Wild Thing" hits and we see Jon Moxley meet up with Eddie Kingston backstage. The two make their way out through the crowd as they head down to the ring for our first segment of the evening.

    As the two make their way down to the ring, Daniel Garcia and 2.0 attack Moxley with a lead pipe and beat down Kingston. The trio attack the duo in the crowd and then Matt Lee grabs a microphone and they all head down to the ring. Matt Lee tells Sting and Darby Allin that they just took out their boys, and now they got nothing. Lee tells them to get out to the ring right now!

    Texas Tornado Tag Match: Sting and Darby Allin vs. 2.0 with Daniel Garcia

    Allin’s music hits and he attacks the opponents from behind with his skateboard. Sting gets to the ring and hits a sting splash. Sting goes out to the crowd with Parker, throwing big shots along the way. Allin and Lee out to the upper concourse area. Garcia gets involved, too, since there are no DQs. Allin gets popped up against the concrete wall. The fans fire up with a "You still got it!" chant aimed at Sting.

    Allin takes Lee into the backstage area in a concord high up in the crowd. 2.0 and Garcia end up triple-teaming Allin, hitting their finisher on him and beginning a prolonged multi-person beatdown of the former TNT Champion. Sting also gets guzzled up by the trio as the commentators point out that this is a No DQ match.

    Darby recovers as Sting is fighting off all three guys. We see Darby walking a rail for what seemed like an eternity and then leaps onto 2.0. Sting recovers and now they are beating the heel trio down when out of nowhere, Eddie Kingston joins the picture and helps Darby and Sting beat them down.

    Back at ringside, a table is pulled out and brought into the ring. 2.0 fights back into the lead and brings Darby's skateboard in the ring. They hit a double suplex on him on the wheels and Darby screams in pain. 2.0 puts Sting on the top rope after the table is set up and they double power bomb him through it. Sting pops right up and no-sells it, hitting both guys with his Stinger Death Drop.

    We see Darby recover as Sting grabs all four legs of both 2.0 members and puts his Scorpion Death Lock on both guys at the same time. Darby guards him and 2.0 taps out.

    Winners: Sting and Darby Allin

    – Before tonight’s event, Sammy Guevara propsed to his girlfriend, Pam. She says yes and they hug in the middle of the ring.

    – Backstage, Tully Blanchard and Shawn Spears sarcastically clap for Sammy’s proposal. “Slim pickins’ in San Antonio” Spears says. He continues for one night only, he’ll let Pam be a honorary member of The Pinnacle, and she can be on top.

    Guevara gets attacked from behind during his entrance. Guevara fights him off and sends him off the ramp and down to the floor, he then hits a big flip off the stage and down on Spears. He goes over and gives his new fiance a kiss. Spears and Sammy both throw chops at each other. Spears then gets sent into the barricade.

    Out on the floor Tully helps Spears with the assisted piledriver. Ref saw that, but the match hasn’t officially started since they haven’t gotten into the ring. They finally do, bell rings, Sammy rolls to the outside. Tully and Spears try to do it again and Aubrey Edwards sends Tully to the back. Tully smacks Edwards with his coat as he finally makes his way to the back. In the ring, Spears drops the kneepad and throws a bunch of knees into Guevara’s face. Spears trying to flirt with Sammy’s fiance. Smmy boots him in the face. Crowd has been into everything so far in this show. Sammy with the double springboard cutter, Spears moves out of the way. Spears looks for a powerbomb, no, but then chops Sammy in the chest.

    Barricade gets bridged from the apron to another barricade. The two are battling on the apron, both up on the top rope. Spears with a middle finger and Sammy hits a huge cutter to the ring, cover, two! Spears and Guevara end up on the second rope, avalanche C4 on Guevara, pin, two-count. Crowd is on the floor is standing for this one.

    Spears drags his opponent over to a barricade, back and forth reversals until spears takes a death valley driver on it! Sammy gets him in the ring, he goes up top for the 630, crashes straight down on Spears, cover, 1-2-no?! Sammy can’t believe it. Sammy with knee strikes to the face, one of them busted Spears open. He then hits GTH on Spears for the win.

    Winner: Sammy Guevara

    – Backstage, Tony talks with Impact World Champion Christian Cage about his win over Kenny Omega. Don Callis steps in and says he remembers when he gave Christian his first big break back in the day. Callis says he may have won with the help of the chair, but anyways. He’s finally going to get that 5 star match that he always wanted. Don says nothing has changed, he’s make big moves, and Christian is…still wrestling matches! Christian says Kenny already lost one title to him, and he’s in Kenny’s head. At All Out, he’s going to take Kenny’s most prized possession. Christian finishes by saying Callis thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room at all times, but will always be a “carny piece of shit.”

    – Last week, video package highlighting Dante Martin’s skills against Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. Martin says last week he took the AEW World Champion to his limit. While he’s young, he’s going to learn how to keep rising up the ranks and Dante Martin will be a name everyone knows.

    – In the ring, Tony is with American Top Team’s Dan Lambert. Lambert says AEW has jumped aboard the cancel culture train after AEW sent out Lance Archer to punch him and silence him. Lambert says this time he brought backup in the form of former UFC Champions Junior Dos Santos and Andrei Arlovsk. He continues if anyone else in the back is feeling froggy — they better jump. Lambert rips on the fans, he says they aren’t here because they are hardcore, they’re here because they’re hard-up. Lance Archer makes his way out again, but Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page jump him from behind before he can even get to the ring. The two stomp away at home. The guys in the ring clap it up for Page and Sky’s work.

    – Backstage, Chris Jericho says for the past four weeks he’s endured the Labours of Jericho and talks about all the punishment he took along the way. Tonight, he gets the ultimate prize against MJF. Jericho says he has the momentum and the upper hand over MJF. He says fans will sing him to the ring, as well! “Jericho up! And my jerkoff friend (MJF) down!”

    AEW World Tag Team Championship: The Young Bucks (c) with Brandon Cutler, The Good Brothers, MT Nakazawa, and Don Callis vs. Jurassic Express

    Callis joins commentary for this match. Nick and JB get things start, quick back and forth action with Nick evading JB down to the floor. He cold sprays himself a bit and taunts JB until he gets splashed by his opponent. In the ring, JB works over Nick, and Luchsaurus hits a clothesline from the corner. The big man tags in, but Nick able to scurry away and tag in Matt. Luchasaurus lands some big chops. Matt tries for a running crossbody and gets caught in midair.

    Matt flying all over the place to put down both of his opponents. He then does a little Rick Rude hip swivel in celebration. JB getting worked over by the champions, but he’s finally able to tag in Luchasaurus. He tosses both brothers around, followed up by a double clothesline. JB with a brainbuster off Luchasaurus’ shoulder, cover, two. Cutler on the apron with the distraction, Nick gets shoved into him. Luchasaurus avoids double super kick and hits some kicks of his own, double chokeslam, he and JB plant Matt. Suicide dive on Nick by JB. Cover on Matt, two-count.

    Young Bucks with the assisted indytaker. Stunt looking to get invovled. Omega (wearing a “Chick Magnet” shirt, CM Punk reference) brings a chair out and smacks Stunt with it. He hands the chair over to Matt,. Out comes Christian, he spears Kenny and takes him to the back. Chair is in the ring, The Good Brothers with the distraction. JB hits a brainbuster on the chair, cover, 1-2-Nick breaks it up. Luchsaurus chucks Nick out to the ramp. Thruassic Express on Matt by JB/Luchasaurus, cover, Nick again breaks it up. Nick thrown out to the ramp, again. JB knocking down all The Elite members off the apron. Luchsaurus with a moonsault down a couple of them. In the ring, it’s Matt and JB. JB with the backslide, but Matt fights out of it, BTE Trigger, cover, 1-2-3.

    Winners: The Young Bucks

    – Post-match, Gallows has Christian Cage over his shoulder and brings him back into the ring. The Elite beats up on all three guys. Omega barking at Christian as he punches away. Even Callis with a cheap stomp. Omega lifts up Christian and hits one winged angel, he has Callis count the 1-2-3. The Elite’s music hits as the group stands tall.

    – Backstage, Tony talks with AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker (with Rebel) and her new backup, Jamie Hayter. Baker says she knew she needed backup when going up against Red Velvet. Hayter says she and Baker go way back, and it was an easy yes to help her out. Hayter says next on Dynamite, she wants Red Velvet and will fix that attitude. Baker recalls Velvet saying red wasn’t Baker’s color, she knows for sure gold is not Red Velvet’s color and it never will be!

    – Matt Hardy cuts a promo about the Best Friends thinking he’s picking on Wheeler Yuta. He says he’s just an equal opportunity ass kicker, he’ll take on Yuta, Taylor, or he’ll kick Orange Cassidy ass if he keeps poking his nose in his business. Cassidy says maybe they need to find out if Hardy can actually do that.

    – In the ring, Tony introduces Paul Wight. Wight says it felt so good to take out The Factory last week. He then has an announcement for the fans, but is interrupted by QT Marshall (with Nick Comoroto and Aaron Solow). QT says in AEW, they don’t build up the fans’ anticipation just to let them down. Wight is starting to get annoyed with QT’s babbling. Marshall says instead of trying to explain this to the “morons in Houston.” QT says he is privilaged to know a lot of information and has a photo put up on the screen. We see an x-ray of the Big Show’s hip, QT talks about Wight having a bunch of surgeries just to have a normal life. We see a photo of Wight’s side and a giant stitched portion of his hip. Wight then calls QT “plugs,” lol, and says at All Out, he has a match against QT Marshall.

    – Backstage, Jade Cargill announces she’ll face Kiera Hogan on Friday’s AEW Rampage.

    – Backstage, Don Callis says The Young Bucks are so dominant and they should go take a break. Tony announces a tag title eliminator tournament featuring: Varsity Blonds, Private Party, Jurassic Express, Lucha Bros. Winners get a world title shot in Chicago shot in a Steel Cage.

    – In the ring, it’s Taz with his son Hook. Taz introduces FTW Champion Ricky Starks, who heads out to the stage. Starks says he’s holding the title for a very long time, he then wants Brian Cage to come out so they can have a one-on-one talk. Cut to the back where Powerhouse Hobbs standing over a fallen Cage. Brian gets back up and the two start swinging away. Starks says to cut the video and runs to the back. Hook and Taz follow.

    – Backstage, Tony talks with Death Triangle and mentions their potential matches at All Out. PAC says the PPV will be a perfect place for his match. It’s the same place he destroyed Kenny Omega on only two weeks notice. He wonders what chance Andrade has against him. Andrade, Chavo, and the assistant roll up. Andrade says if PAC wants the match, they have some conditions. There’s a stack of papers for them to read over. Chavo tells Lucha Bros they will never be champions with a boss like PAC.

    Thunder Rosa vs. Penelope Ford

    Rosa landing some big shots early on. “Thunder Rosa!” chant from the crowd. Ford charges in, but Rosa moves and stomps away at her opponent. Rosa looks for a suplex, no, Ford gets sent to the apron and smacked in the face. Ford with a dropkick, sending Ford out to the floor. Ford able to hit a running cutter on Rosa and continue to beat her up inside the ring.

    Ford fights her way back, drops Ford, and nails her with a big missile dropkick that nearly sends her out to the floor. Rosa with a butterfly suplex, cover, two. Thunder driver, Ford reverses into a roll-up, two. Ford tries for the muta lock, but Rosa able to twist out of it, Ford with a pin attempt, two-count. Rosa goes right into a single-leg boston crab, Ford gets to the ropes for the break. Rosa with a couple spins, death valley driver, cover, two. Ford up and hits a knee backbreak on Ford. She tries for another muta lock on Rosa, but she rolls over and locks in a submission of her own for the tap out.

    Winner: Thunder Rosa

    – We look back at the debut of Malakai Black at Road Rager when he took out Arn Anderson and Cody Rhodes. Tony talks with Arn and his son, Brock Anderson. He finds out that Brock is getting a match next week against Malakai Black. Brock says it’s signed and he’s doing it.

    – AEW TNT Champion Miro says he didn’t forgive Fuego del Sol and accepted something he didn’t earn (the AEW contract). Miro says if nobody comes for him, he’ll come for them all. “Eddie Kingston, The Redeemer wants to talk.”

    – Backstage, Jon Moxley says what happened earlier today, now everybody wants a piece of him, they’re coming from everywhere! He talks about The Elite and Kenny Omega needing so much protection. He says Hangman Page couldn’t get the job done when it came to winning the title. He tells Christian he’ll run through him, and should have stayed retired. Moxley says he really wants to show who is at the top of the food chain. He then tells his Rampage opponent, Daniel Garcia, if this is really what he wants. Moxley says the ringside doctor will be there for him, but Garcia better be sure AEW is really where he wants to be because this ain’t no joke.

    5 Labours of Jericho: Chapter 5: MJF vs. Chris Jericho

    Jericho can’t use judas effect in this match, if he does, he’ll be disqualified. Jericho also can’t come out to “Judas.” The crowd ends up singing Jericho to the ring and does a really decent job of keeping it together. Jericho smiling and claps for them. The two battle out to the floor. MJF grabs the camera, much like Jericho does, and gives the fans the middle finger. He spins around see Jericho, who punches him right in the face. Jericho then gives the camera the middle finger and smiles. He goes to smack MJF with it, but MJF quickly gets in the ring. Jericho gets thrown shoulder-first into the ring post, MJF then kicks away at Jericho’s bad arm.

    Jericho knocking down MJF a couple times, heads to the top rope and lands a double sledge. MJF pulls off the cast, then double stomps down on Jericho’s bad elbow. Jericho chops MJF down and then hits the lionsault, cover, two. Both end up on the top rope, Jericho throwing numerous punches and finishers with a hurricanrana, cover, two. MJF goes right into a fujiwara armbar. Jericho reverses into wall of jericho and is able to lock it in for a second. MJF turns over and hits an up-kick.

    Back and forth punches, Jericho tossed to the apron, pendulum piledriver by MJF, pin, two-count. MJF taunts Jericho, sleeper hold by MJF. MJF blocks the ref and hits a lowblow kick. He then goes for walls of Jericho. Jericho finally claws his way to the ropes and gets the break. MJF looks to put on his diamond ring, Aubrey Edwards sees it, and takes care of it. Jericho smacks MJF with the baseball bat, goes to hit judas effect, but stops. MJF hits him with judas effect and locks in salt of the earth (fujiwara armbar). Jericho tries to reverse into a pin. MJF rolls back and flattens Jericho out with salt of the earth and Jericho finally taps out!

    Winner: MJF

    – Post-match. MJF celebrates as the fans boo him. Jericho holding his arm as MJF makes his way up to the stage.
