Jutulhogget is the name of Norway's only canyon.
Jutul comes from the old norse word used on trolls. And the story tells about two trolls feuding with each other. One of them, named Rendalsjutulen (from the valley of Rendalen) used his big axe to form a valley, so Glomma (Norway's biggest river) would not go trough his valley, but rather the neighbouring valley, inhabited by another troll named Glåmdalsjutulen (from the valley of Glåmdal) This resulted in a fight between the two trolls in which Glåmdalsjutulen won and killed Rendalsjutulen. But the damage was already done. And to this day, the biggest river in Norway runs down the valley of Glåmdalen instead of the valley of Rendalen.
