Angry AEW Dynamite Live Coverage - April 6th, 2022

    AEW Dynamite

This week on DYNAMITE on TBS, a long-awaited rematch between FTR and the Young Bucks. Samoa Joe makes his DYNAMITE debut. Christian Cage faces Adam Cole. Plus, The Butcher and The Blade take on The Hardys.

    – We shoot inside the arena after the theme intro plays. Jim Ross welcomes us to the show with his usual catchphrase and then sends things down to the ring for our opening contest.

    Adam Cole vs. Christian Cage

The popular theme for Adam Cole hits and out he comes for the first bout of the show. He settles in the ring and the fans do his "BOOM! -- Adam Cole ... Bay--Bay!" routine with him. After that, Christian Cage's theme hits and he heads down to the ring.

Both guys are in the ring now and we hear the bell sound to get this one off-and-running. The two exchange some back-and-forth strikes early on, and then the action spills out to the floor at ringside.

We see Cole start to pull ahead, ramming Christian into the steel barricade and then whipping him into the ring steps. He bounces off the steel and flies over them, old-school Mankind style. From there, we head to a mid-match commercial break just as Cole stands on top of the steps and leads the fans in an "Adam Cole ..Bay-Bay!" taunt while Christian remains laid out down below him. As we settle back in following the break, we see Cole sarcastically blowing Christian a kiss while he's down in the ring. Christian ends up taking over after that.

He launches Cole out to the floor and then leaping off the ropes to splash onto him. The commentators speculate that Christian got the worse of the spot, as he seemed to hurt his knee on the rough landing.

Back in the ring, Cole hits a backstabber on Christian as he was climbing up for a moonsault on the ropes. Moments later, Cole "lowers the boom" for a close near fall. Excalibur points out that he didn't lower his knee pad before the shot and that's why Christian was able to kick out. Christian takes over on offense from there but once again a high spot shifted the momentum, as he dove off the ropes in the corner directly into a perfectly timed super kick from Cole.

Cole heads up to the top looking to set Christian up for his Panama Sunrise spot, however Christian countered that and brought Cole off the top the hard way for a near fall of his own. Adam Cole catches Christian with a super kick to the knee and once again he goes for the Panama Sunrise, only for Christian to avoid it. He goes for a spear but Cole hits a pump-kick. He lowers the knee-pad and goes to "lower the boom," however Christian avoided it and blasted him with a spear for a near fall. The crowd gives these two a standing ovation after that last exchange.

An "AEW!" chant breaks out after that. Seconds later, Cole lowers the boom with the knee pad down for the pin fall victory.

    Winner: Adam Cole

After the match wraps up, we see reDRagon immediately run down to the ring for a post-match beat down of Christian. This brings out Luchasaurus and he brawls with them to the back. Cole didn't want to get involved, but as he goes to slowly exit the ring, the theme for Hangman Page hits and he comes out. The two have a quick face-to-face promo segment in the ring and we eventually get a Texas Death Match set up.

Owen Hart Foundation Men's Qualifying Match: Samoa Joe vs. Max Caster

We see a video package showing some of the key highlights of the ROH World Championship match at Supercard to Honor, as well as the promotional return of Samoa Joe.

From there, we return live inside Agganis Arena for the first qualifying match for the men's Owen Hart Foundation tournament. The theme for Samoa Joe hits and the crowd gives him a standing ovation that lasts for a while. Out comes Max Caster with his "listen! listen!" freestyle rap. He throws out a few lines about Joe playing with himself too much .... and some shots about how AEW was beating NXT in the ratings when he was their world champion.

In the ring, both guys are ready to go and the bell sounds to get this one off-and-running. Joe dominates the early action, taking it to Caster and taunting him while he's down.

Caster is knocked out to the floor and Joe follows out after building up a head of steam. He dives through the ropes and connects on Caster. Back in the ring, Joe hits his Muscle Buster and scores the pin fall to qualify for the Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament.

    Winner: Samoa Joe

    – We see Jay Lethal appear on the big screen and he cuts a promo from backstage on Joe while he is still in the ring. He talks about Joe only answering his phone for billionaires and says he's going to give him a gift next week in New Orleans. We head to a commercial break.

    – After the break, we get a backstage promo from William Regal and Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley, we head to the ring for our next match of the evening. Out comes Shawn Spears and Shawn Dean for singles action.

    Shawn Spears vs. Shawn Dean

Joining the commentators on special guest commentary for this match will be MJF. Out comes The Pinnacle leader for this one-on-one contest.

We hear MJF getting razzed by the commentators, most notably Excalibur, while Spears takes it to Dean early on. He dumps him out to the floor and then points out a "Wardlow banned from the building" poster to the camera.

Back in the ring, we see Spears "playing with his food," beating down Dean with ease some more but refusing to let him get pinned for a three count, as he lifts his shoulder at the count of two. As the fans chant "Wardlow! Wardlow!" we see some activity on the big screen from backstage. A couple of security guards are shown laid out. Excalibur says, "This can't be right," and then says he's just gonna let Maxwell Jacob Friedman find out for himself.

Wardlow quickly heading to the ring from backstage. He takes out a couple more security guards and then emerges and begins making a B-Line to the commentary table to finally get his hands on MJF. Eventually three more security guards stop him just as he was about to get to MJF. While he is being carried off, Dean surprises Spears from behind with a roll-up for the three-count, picking up another upset victory.

    Winner: Shawn Dean

    – Backstage, Tony Schiavone is with The Best Friends. Trent argues with Wheeler Yuta about not loving him, despite Chuck saying the opposite.

He says Wheeler can become what he wants, which is the best wrestler he can be, while being part of The Best Friends. He ends up walking off upset and telling both Chuck and Trent not to touch him.

    – We see Jericho Appreciation Society take off in a car and then follow Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz to the ring as they make their way out talking into mics.

Kingston gets in the ring and says he knows where they live and tells them not to think he won't come to their homes. He lets them know they're beef is "on sight." He calls them b*tches and makes it clear when they see them, they're kicking their asses. We head to another commercial break.

    – When we return from the break, Tony Schiavone is standing on the entrance ramp. His guest at this time, TBS Women's Champion Jade Cargill, makes her way out. Cargill tells Schiavone to cut the sh*t first of all. She's here to introduce her "Baddy" (or Batty?) section. A couple members of said-crew are shown sitting in the front row. She brings up Marina Shafir and says she's sick of MMA washouts making their way over to wrestling. She says Shafir calls herself "The Problem," and points out that she is "The Problem Solver."

Tag-Team Tables Match: The Hardy Brothers vs. The Butcher & The Blade

After a quick backstage promo with MJF and Shawn Spears, who tell Wardlow if he shows his face next week there will be more security, we get ready for our next match.

We return inside the arena where The Butcher & The Blade make their way down to the ring accompanied by The Bunny. They settle in the ring after pulling out a table and breaking one of the legs of it off. Now the theme for The Hardy Brothers hits and out comes Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy for this Tables match. The bell sounds and we're off-and-running, as all four guys immediately start brawling at ringside.

We see The Blade go to spear Jeff Hardy through a table set up in the corner in the ring. Hardy moves and Blade crashes through the table himself. The ref waves his hands to indicate the match is still on. The commentators explain that since it wasn't an offensive move by Hardy to Blade, it doesn't end the match.

As the action continues in the ring, we see The Butcher and The Blade team up to hit a superplex spot off the top-rope, putting Jeff Hardy through a table in the process. Both members of the team must be put through a table before it's considered over, so we head to a commercial break as The Butcher & The Blade beat down Matt Hardy in two-on-one fashion. We go to a commercial break.

Back from the break to the action in the ring, and we see Hardy wearing out The Butcher with a chair. He then puts him through a table to eliminate him.

We're down to The Blade and Matt Hardy duking it out among themselves. We see Blade knock Matt down and then he and The Butcher set up a table outside of the ring. Butcher and Blade connect with a double suplex on Hardy on the floor, however he isn't put through a table as it was movged during the spot, so the match continues.

Jeff continues to help out Matt on the floor, making this an even numbers game again. The Hardy's set up a pair of tables side-by-side on the floor. Jeff sets up a ladder next to them. Jeff hits a swanton off the ladder putting Blade through a table for the elimination (even though Jeff was eliminated himself?) and that's all she wrote. The Hardy's pick up the win.

    Winners: The Hardy Brothers

Once the match is over, the A.F.O. make their way out as Andrade El Idolo's theme plays. Sting's theme hits and out he comes to run them off.

We see a video package hyping up Nyla Rose and Thunder Rosa and then we shoot to an interview segment that Toni Storm.

Owen Hart Foundation Women's Qualifying Match: Julia Hart vs. Hikaru Shida

We head back to the ring for our Owen Hart Foundation Women's Qualifying match. Julia Hart makes her way to the ring. Out next is her opponent in this qualifier for the women's tourney, as Hikaru Shida makes her way to the squared circle as well.

The bell sounds and we see Hart jump off to an early offensive lead, taking it to Shida. She even tells The Varsity Blonds to head to the back because she doesn't need help.

Right at that point, however, Shida starts to take over on offense. On the floor, Shida opens up a chair and sets it up and then runs and leaps off of it for a kick to Hart. Back in the ring. Shida looks to capitalize on the momentum she just established, however she takes too long catering to the fans and ends up walking into a kick from Hart.

We head to a mid-match commercial break. When we return, we see Hart still controlling the action against the former AEW Women's Champion. She misses a high spot off the top, leading to Shida catching her with a kick and a falcon arrow for the pin fall victory. With the win, Shida advances to the tourney.

    Winner: Hikaru Shida

    – Once the match wraps up, we run down some of the action scheduled for next week's AEW programming and then head to a commercial break.

The Young Bucks vs. FTR II

When we return from the break, the respective entrances of our competitors in the main event take place, as The Young Bucks and FTR both make their ring walks.

The bell sounds and we're off-and-running with our final match of the evening.

After some early back-and-forth action, we see The Young Bucks pull ahead. We head to a mid-match commercial as the action continues.

When we return from the break, we see The Young Bucks still in control of the offense, however not for long. Cash Wheeler does a good job avoiding an onslaught from Nick and Matt. This leads to both of the Bucks crashing and burning on the floor. He heads over to make the much-needed tag to Dax, however the Bucks take Dax out so there is no one for Cash to tag.

Cash ends up fighting them both off again as they were trying a double-team ambush. This time, however he does manage to make the hot tag. Dax takes the hot tag and goes to work hitting everything that moves. He takes Nick and sends him flying out to the floor and then chops the piss out of Matt in the corner. Now we get to the finishing sequence. Both teams are fighting two-on-two in the ring for many of these spots, which sees the Big Rig done by the Bucks to FTR.

They tried finishing them off with their own move, however FTR hangs on. Bucks try their own More Bang for your Buck spot and go for the cover, however again FTR manages to avoid being put away. The Young Bucks end up blasting Wheeler with a belt shot and they go for the immediate follow-up pin attempt, however Harwood hits the ring to break it up before the count of three.

Nick and Matt each hit a super kick on Dax to send him out of the ring. They turn their attention to Wheeler and look for the BTE Trigger, however when the ref counts three, he notices at the last moment that Wheeler had his foot on the ropes just in time. He immediately waves off the finish calling and says the match is still going to continue. The fans break out in a loud FTR! FTR! chant as the action resumes.

The Young Bucks go for the Meltzer Driver but instead, FTR reverses to a slingshot tombstone finisher. They follow that up with a BTE Trigger double-team spot of their own and then mock their double kiss before hitting the Big Rig for the pin fall victory.

Winners and STILL ROH & AAA Tag-Team Champions: FTR

The show goes off the air during FTR's post-match celebration.
