The long-awaited Gladiator sequel has a release date, and it's coming next year.

Reported by Variety, the Gladiator sequel will be released on November 22, 2024. Paul Mescal is in talks to star in the sequel. The actor is best known for his role in Hulu's Normal People, and is currently nominated for Best Actor at the 2023 Academy Awards for his role in Aftersun.

After years of fans hoping for a sequel to the original Gladiator, Ridley Scott finally announced plans to move forward with a sequel in 2018. Then, last year, Scott confirmed that the movie's script was complete, and that "there’s enough components from the first one to pick up the ball and continue it.”

Gladiator was released in 2000 and won five Academy Awards. The movie starred Russell Crowe as General Maximus Decimus Meridius, a betrayed Roman general who gets thrown into the gladiator games after his family is murdered.

We still don't know much about the sequel's plot, but previous reports have said Mescal will play Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen's Lucilla and nephew to Joaquin Phoenix's Commodus from the original.
