Angry AEW Had Agreed to CM Punk's Return "In Principle" Before Social Media Drama

CM Punk and AEW had reached an agreement for his return before his recent controversial post on social media.

Punk has been suspended since last September's All Out Pay-Per-View for his post-show comments and his role in the backstage fight.

Out of the many people suspended at the time, Punk is the only one still suspended, with Ace Steel being fired and everybody else in the company being reinstated.

While CM Punk reportedly hopes to return when the timing is right, the two-time former AEW World Champion is not making things easy.

This month, Punk took to Instagram to respond to a report that he had refused to lose to Jon Moxley during their feud last Summer.

In his rebuttal, Punk said that it had been Moxley who had refused to lose and that Chris Jericho was a "liar" and a "stooge."

Punk also claimed that AEW, led by Tony Khan, did not care about his health and was insistent on him wrestling while not medically cleared.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is reported that at the time of Punk's Instagram post, he and AEW were negotiating his return.

Punk and AEW "were working on a reconciliation that was at least in principle agreed to, per the decision of Khan who wanted him back."

Given Punk's comments against Moxley, Jericho, and Khan, it is unclear whether this "in principle" agreement still stands.

CM Punk hopes to make his return to AEW, but the roster isn't ready to welcome him back with open arms.

It has been reported that the "vast majority" of the wrestlers in AEW do not want him back, believing he is too toxic and has disrespected the promotion.

Punk does have some allies in AEW, most noticeably Dax Harwood, who has defended Punk on his FTR podcast.

AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill has also praised Punk for his support during her tenure with the company.

Last month, AEW Trios Champion Brody King liked a Twitter post claiming that Punk had done nothing wrong.
