Top AEW star Jon Moxley is headed back to Japan.

Moxley hasn’t been seen in action for NJPW in Japan since before the COVID-19 pandemic, as he previously worked a match in the country that took place at The New Beginning in Osaka on February 9, 2020.

Moxley did work NJPW shows in the United States throughout 2021 and 2022, with his most recent NJPW bout coming at NJPW of USA took place on October 27, 2022, at The Night Before Rumble on 44th Street in New York.

While with NJPW, Moxley is a two-time IWGP United States Champion, and in 2019, he took part in the G1 Climax 29, where he finished with 10 points and a record of 5-4.

It was announced on Wednesday by New Japan Pro Wrestling that Moxley is returning to Japan for the promotion on June 4 at Dominion. His former protege, Shota Umino, revealed the news after the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team title match at the show today that saw Umino confront new champions Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, & Tomohiro Ishii before a video featuring Moxley aired on the big screen.

Moxley said in the hype announcement video, "At Dominion, the boogeyman of New Japan Pro Wrestling returns.”

It was speculated by Chris Charlton on commentary that Moxley, Umino, and a partner may wish to challenge for the six-man titles at Dominion next month.

NJPW previously confirmed that the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion will return to NJPW of USA for the first time this year on Sunday, May 21 at Resurgence.
