AEW recently filed a new trademark application. All Elite Wrestling, LLC applied to trademark the phrase DOUBLE JEOPARDY on May 11, 2023. The attorney of record was Bradley M. Stohry.

According to United States Patent & Trademark Office database, the "goods and services" usage for the word mark includes the following:

  • Entertainment services in the nature of live wrestling performances;
  • Entertainment services in the nature of production of wrestling programs and events;
  • Entertainment services, namely, an ongoing multimedia program featuring wrestling distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media.

Typically, wrestling-related trademark filings with the above goods and services indicate new programming (television or digital).

It's worth noting, however, that AEW featured a 'Double Jeopardy' match last week on the May 10, 2023 edition of AEW Dynamite. The champion vs. champion match between Claudio Castagnoli and Rey Fenix that opened the show was billed as Double Jeopardy.

AEW's "Double Jeopardy" trademark also lists 5/10/23 as the "FIRST USE" of the trademark, so it appears AEW may be protecting this particular match type for future use.
