The segment featuring Renee Paquette and MJF slapping the mic out of her hand during a backstage interview on the May 17 episode of Dynamite was not originally planned by AEW.

According to Dave Meltzer's report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the original plan was for a promo segment involving everyone in the four pillars match and Britt Baker.

During the segment, Baker was supposed to deliver a line stating that even if MJF wins his match and retains the AEW World Championship, he wouldn't hold the title for long.

The idea behind this was to set up a future feud between Adam Cole and the winner of the four pillars match, with Cole vying for the championship.

However, something about the original plan was deemed not good enough, leading to a change in the segment that viewers saw on AEW Dynamite.

Meltzer speculates that the decision to alter the segment may have been influenced by a desire not to reveal that Cole is in line for a title shot, as it would make fans assume that MJF would retain the championship.

Meltzer also mentioned that despite the change in plans, many people still believe that MJF will come out victorious in the match, as the odds are heavily favoring him at 50-to-1.

"The segment where MJF slapped the mic out of Renee Paquette’s hands was not the original plan. There was a promo segment involving everyone in the match and Britt Baker was involved. It ended with Baker saying that even if he wins, he’s not going to hold the title long Bay Bay. The idea is that Cole gets the next big title chase against whoever wins the match. But there was something about it that was deemed not good and instead of doing it again, they changed to what they did. Maybe the decision was not to let people know Cole was getting the next shot meaning people would figure MJF was winning, although everyone figures MJF is winning as there was 50-to-1 odds favoring him"
