Angry Vince McMahon Thought There Was Too Much Wrestling on WWE Shows

Vince McMahon is a big fan of the product of World Wrestling Entertainment but wishes there wasn't so much wrestling getting in the way.

McMahon has had an interesting relationship with professional wrestling, despite being seen as the unconquerable king of the wrestling industry. It is McMahon's efforts to distinguish his performers from other wrestlers that has led to on-screen talent being referred to as 'Superstars' rather than wrestlers. When McMahon wanted to avoid the stigma of violent wrestling to advertisers in the 1980s, he coined the term 'Sports Entertainment' to promote his product.

One of the biggest criticisms of McMahon and his approach to wrestling is that he is far more interested in characters and micro-managing than what goes on between those ropes. Speaking on the latest episode of his Extreme Life podcast, Matt Hardy recalled McMahon not being fond of how much wrestling was making it to TV.

"There were times where Vince McMahon would say, 'There's too much wrestling on this show!' I'm sure if he watched AEW, he'd say, 'there's too much wrestling on that show.'"

Speaking about the differences between McMahon and his current boss, Tony Khan, Hardy said that the two billionaires take a different approaches to how they view the industry.

"[Vince] views it as sports entertainment and he's more concerned with the stories and characters... Tony Khan views pro wrestling as a more traditional, old-school type of pro wrestling where what happens in the ring is very important and it has true consequences."

McMahon may have a different approach to Khan, but that hasn't stopped the success of WWE's Executive Chairman. Earlier this year, McMahon reached a deal with Endeavor Holdings Group that will see WWE be acquired for $9.3 billion. The deal is expected to be finalized later this year.

I agree in a way, I use to like the backstage moments back in the Attitude Days, they were good at giving an insight to a story line or was funny etc.
