Cody Rhodes and MJF may be in separate companies, but the AEW World Champion hasn't forgotten about one of his 'best friends.'

The feud between MJF and Cody Rhodes in the early days of AEW helped define MJF as one of the most captivating stars in the company. It was thanks to MJF throwing in the towel during Rhodes' title match with then-Champion Chris Jericho that resulted in Cody being banned from challenging for the AEW World Champion. Since Rhodes left AEW and returned to WWE, MJF has been far more complimentary of the former TNT Champion in an attempt to antagonize the AEW fans.

In the first-ever four-way match for the AEW World Championship, MJF put his title on the line against 'Jungle Boy' Jack Perry, Darby Allin, and Sammy Guevara. In one spot during the match, all four men hit the moves of their mentors. Allin started the proceedings with a Scorpion Death Drop on MJF in a nod to Sting. The skateboarding wrestler was taken out with a Codebreaker by Sammy Guevara, in a tribute to his JAS ally Chris Jericho.

Up next it was Jungle Boy who flattened the soon-to-be father with a Killswitch, a nod to Christian Cage, even though the two are far from allies anymore. Perry was then taken out by MJF with the Cross Rhodes, and the move was named by commentary. While this sequence was unable to secure MJF the victory, he would go on to retain his AEW World Championship.
