WWE NXT Battleground is in the history books and is being seen as one of the pivotal shows for the gold brand.

Battleground took place on Sunday, May 28, the same day as AEW Double or Nothing. The event saw a total six matches with all but one match being for a championship or the NXT Heritage Cup. The only title change on the show saw Tiffany Stratton defeat Lyra Valkyria to capture the vacant NXT Women's Championship. The title had been without a holder for weeks after Indi Hartwell vacated the title due to being called up to Monday Night Raw as part of the 2023 WWE Draft.

PW Insider reports that WWE was "absolutely thrilled" with NXT Battleground, with some feeling it was the best "milestone" show from the gold brand in some time. One source who spoke to PW Insider said the show was "worlds ahead" of their WrestleMania weekend broadcast NXT Stand & Deliver.

The report also explains that there was no post-show media call by Shawn Michaels because much of the company's PR team had been involved with WWE Night of Champions and would have been returning from Saudi Arabia the same day. NXT's crew returned to Orlando yesterday morning, and nobody who was at Battleground, either on camera of behind the scenes, was slated to be on last night's Raw.

With WWE NXT Battleground in the history books, attention turns toward the brand's next major event, the Great American Bash. During Battleground, it was announced that the upcoming show will take place on July 30, in Cedar Park, Texas.
