Rey Mysterio was pulled from WrestleMania 41 due to a recent injury, and now we know what specific injury he’s dealing with.

Mysterio was scheduled to face off with El Grande Americano on night one of WrestleMania 41. Unfortunately, Mysterio was injured during a six-man tag team match on this week’s episode of SmackDown. Mysterio was carried to the back after his match. Many fans speculated it could’ve been a storyline, but we soon found out that was not the case.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider was the first to report that the injury was 100% legitimate. It was noted that Mysterio’s match with El Grande Americano was in jeopardy. Mysterio was still advertised for his match as late as Saturday afternoon. However, WWE later confirmed he’d been pulled and replaced with Rey Fenix at WrestleMania 41.

Rey Mysterio appeared at WWE World on Sunday morning for a live signing, and WrestleMania 41 was mentioned. Mysterio confirmed he is dealing with a groin injury, not a leg injury as it was originally believed. Specifically, Mysterio said he had torn his groin, but did not go into detail about how severe the injury is, or how much in-ring time he will miss. This confirms a report by F4WOnline.com‘s Dave Meltzer, who reported Mysterio had torn his groin.

There are different grades of groin tears, with a Grade 1 or mild tear taking a few weeks to heal, while a more severe groin tear can take several months to heal.
