WWE star William Regal, a long-time friend of Chris Benoit, discussed the Benoit family tragedy and his past addictions with Fox News Atlanta. The reporter noted that Regal had his own drug addition problems and received help from within World Wrestling Entertainment.

In discussing Benoit, Regal said, "I've known Chris Benoit for 17 years. He asked for time off last year - four months, he was given four months off and no matter what anyone wants to say, if he had any problems, he could have taken care of them in those times. He could have asked for help. If he chooses not to ask, there's nobody else that can help him."

The report noted that Regal claimed many of the drug issues in the industry started in WCW, pointing out the company was no longer in business. Regal said that there were drug tests in that era, but they were easier to pass. The report also stated that Regal, 39, hopes to wrestle for three more years before moving into commentating.
