18-year-old shot dead in street

A teenager died after being shot in the neck, Scotland Yard have said.

The 18-year-old, from Algeria, was found with a single gunshot wound in Broadwater Road, Haringey, at about 10.20pm.

His next of kin have been told and a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

There have been no arrests and officers are keeping an open mind as to the motive, although it is not believed to be gang-related.

One woman who lives in Broadwater Road said: "I heard a helicopter, and saw the police outside. I didn't know what had happened until I saw them out there this morning. It doesn't surprise me that this has happened in my road, living in this area you expect anything."

Another said the shooting took place near The Elmhurst Hotel, although staff there said they did not believe customers were involved. There was a party at the venue last night.

The teenager's death follows the fatal stabbing of another 18-year-old in Walthamstow, east London, on Friday night.

Wahab Zaaki, of Old Church Road, Chingford, suffered multiple knife wounds to the chest and died on his way to hospital.

Outside the capital, Tyler Peter Juett, 17, from Aspley, Nottingham, also died that day after being attacked with a knife in what appeared to be an attempted burglary.

And in Hereford, police arrested four men over the murder of Darren Loader, 17, on a disused railway line on Thursday evening.
