Default Paul Daley Misses Weight, Loses Title Shot

    Four hundred grams.

That's the margin – 0.881849 pounds for you non-metric people – by which Paul Daley missed weight for his welterweight title fight against Yuya Shirai at BAMMA 5, according to manager Wad Alameddine.

The fight will now be changed to a three-round non-title fight, according to Alameddine, and Daley (26-9-2) has forfeited an undisclosed percentage of his purse to Shirai (20-8).

"We had a few issues," Alameddine told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) over the phone while attempting to dodge a leg kick from his client. "The place where the weigh-in was happening, there was no sauna to use, so we had to travel like half an hour to get to a sauna."

Daley weighed in two pounds over on his initial try before a second try put him 400 grams over the line.

It's the third time Daley has missed weight in his six most recent professional appearances. During his short-lived tenure with the UFC, the British slugger came in two pounds over for a fight against Dustin Hazelett at UFC 108. This past September, he came in a pound-and-a-half over for a fight against Jorge Masvidal at Shark Fights 13. In both cases, he forfeited a percentage of his purse.

Fighters are typically given a one-pound allowance for non-title fights and are given a second chance to make weight, usually within two hours of the initial weigh-ins. For title fights, there is no allowance.

Stateside, Daley has been earmarked for a title shot in Strikeforce against welterweight champion Nick Diaz if he can get past Shirai, the current DEEP welterweight champion.

All things considered, Alameddine said Daley was in decent spirits.

"He's all good," he said. "He's still looking forward to the fight."

BAMMA 5 takes place tomorrow at MEN Arena in Manchester, England, and will stream live on the promotion's website, BAMMAtv.com.

UPDATE: A PR representative for BAMMA has informed MMAjunkie.com that Daley's final recorded weight was 170.4 pounds

And... this is why Daley will never get anywhere in MMA. He just never seems to take anything seriously.

That and the fact that he'll probably never be allowed back in the UFC again.
