Will Ospreay's wrestling career could look much different this time next year if he and New Japan Pro Wrestling can't come to terms over a new deal.

After competing against multiple NJPW wrestlers in 2016, Ospreay signed with the promotion in April that year, where he has remained ever since.

The British wrestler is a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Champion, and three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, among other accolades.

Ospreay recently reached his seventh year under contract with New Japan, but his time in the promotion may be coming to an end.

Speaking to DAZN this week, Ospreay revealed that he has less than a year on his current deal with New Japan.

"My contract with New Japan is up next February. So from that point who's not gonna want this kid who's dedicated to being a hard worker and wanting to put on the best quality of matches.

"In my humble opinion, [star ratings] don’t matter in terms of financial gain, but in terms of viewership, because I’m this British kid who has done it on Indy shows, I know that when my [NJPW] contract comes up, there’ll be a fight for who wants the best five-star wrestler right now."

Ospreay did not mention whether he has entered negotiations with the promotion yet or if he has begun looking at signing with other companies.

The British wrestler has competed for Ring of Honor (prior to Tony Khan's 2022 purchase) and makes occasional appearances for AEW.

Speaking to Digital Spy this year, WWE's Ricochet (who has a long history in the ring with Ospreay, said "Will would fit in anywhere he wanted to go."
