Hulk Hogan’s Hulkamania-era legacy is still popular among wrestling collectors. Recently, his WrestleMania 2 WWF World Heavyweight Championship belt was put up for auction at Heritage Auctions’ Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction.

WrestleMania 2 took place on April 7, 1986, and was held in three different cities before the main event took place at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Hogan defended the WWF World Heavyweight Championship against King Kong Bundy in the headline match.

The belt features the classic globe design that was closely associated with Hogan during the 1980s. The WWF logo sits on the main plate, while the side plates feature country flags. It matches the style of the title belt Hogan carried during his early WWF run.

It was eventually sold for $414,800, including the buyer’s premium, on August 21.

Heritage Auctions was able to match the belt to a photo of Hogan taken on the day of WrestleMania 2. It was also matched to several photoshoot pictures taken around the same period. That helped confirm the belt’s connection to one of the biggest moments of Hogan’s championship run.

According to the auction , Hogan gave the championship to the son of a close family friend. The belt was reportedly handed over backstage in a green room after one of Hogan’s victories.

It then stayed with the same family for years before eventually being put up for auction. That history, along with the photo matching, gave collectors another reason to believe in the belt’s authenticity.

Hogan’s match against King Kong Bundy at WrestleMania 2 remains one of the most memorable title defenses of his early WWF career. Bundy had attacked Hogan several weeks before the event on Saturday Night’s Main Event. The attack left Hogan with badly injured ribs.

Despite the injury, Hogan entered the match with his ribs taped and took on Bundy. The match was also historic because it remains the only traditional steel cage match to headline WrestleMania.
